In an episode of “Frasier,” Martin tries to comfort Niles by saying that what doesn’t kill him makes him stronger, and Niles says, “But not everyone makes it into that second category.”

OVERCOMING failure makes you stronger.

I can think of expressions much more lame than that.

What doesn’t kill you softens you up for the thing that does.

You can’t fail if you don’t try. And if you do try, you’re guaranteed to fail sometime, and learn from it.

The road to wisdom? Well, it’s plain and simple to express:

I’ve never heard “failure makes you stronger,” but it sounds just as absurd as “whatever doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.” Complete nonsense. Though I suppose people who brainwash themselves with that sort of mantra may feel a little better for a little while.

Heck, if that were true, I’d be knocking the bejesus out of King Kong and Godzilla. At the same time.

Failure is supposed to make one stronger, assuming you learn from it.

Pig needs a challenge and win so his self esteem grows bigger.

You can learn from failure. And you can grow from going through difficult situations. From Romans 5:1-5: with/in faith, … “suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope …”

What doesn’t kill you will make you wish it had.(Pretty sure this is a quote, but I can’t remember the reference).

There was a typo in Nietzsche’s dictum. It should have been “What doesn’t kill you makes you stranger.”

I thought it was like the song – What doesn’t kill you makes your stronger. But that doesn’t apply to falling out of a tall tree.

I always thought it should be “whatever doesn’t kill you gives you 42 stitches in your hip”

Stronger not bigger.

It’s what we learn from our failures that makes the difference.
