The Tommy charm offensive has begun! Sure looks like Goldie has their backs too! Let’s see Paddington Mole Pirate stay tough in the face of all that floof!
OT— Thank you so much to everyone for your comments yesterday about Samantha. They say grief is the price we pay for love but we all know our fur babies are worth it. It helps to know we’re not alone. Much love to you all.
Gent, thanks for the link. I have done a bit of exploring in Indian philosophy (used a couple of concepts in my PhD thesis) and come to the conclusion that it is impossible to gain a good grasp of both Western and Indian philosophy in a single lifetime. There is an awful lot of both. I will need several incarnations to manage it, even if I don’t get sidetracked (and I always do) by Chinese philosophy.
(Add to that the difficulty that an awful lot of it was written in Sanskrit – a language singularly unfit for that or any other purpose. Though it gave Panini plenty of material to exercise his genius on.)
So I am grateful to have another take on the subject. It will help me to tidy up my ideas about it.
Thank you everyone who sent comfort and support yesterday when we had to say goodbye to our Sammy dog. I changed my avatar to Sammy (L) and his older brother Cole® in their honor. By now Sammy should be happily romping about with Cole while we miss them both terribly here. This is a wonderful group of compassionate folks.
This arc is interesting. First off, the moles and the cats are about to have a territorial dispute like the raccoons and possums had in the retro/1991 Baba Mouse/Angus/Jules arc from a couple of July’s back, perhaps a truce will be made like back the when Mag told Baba Mouse that the Big Pink House was “neutral ground”. Second, July is rapidly approaching so one has to realize Jules will be making his annual appearance soon, perhaps even in this arc. Right now it looks like Jean Lafitte mole is not too impressed with the BCN crew. Maybe Beatrix can win him over with the cake as a peace offering.
My night owl self is misreading dialogue again, LOL. At first I read “who is you” and just thought that maybe moles just have bad grammar. That’s probably a good sign I should go to bed, LOL.
I’m surprised Burt didn’t chime in, like he did when the raccoons claimed the wall. I do enjoy Georgia’s imagining of moles as pirates who come in and claim the yard for themselves. Very clever.
Beaver Lee Cleary: _ I think I have it. What do you think of this papyrus flyer?_
Beavers versus Groundhogs. Come join us for a competition to see who can transport the most veggies. Winner gets a gold trophy courtesy of the Artesans and a special dinner prepared by Thomios and his crew.
Vi:Just the thing. I think Iron Glove will be glad to create a trophy, and nothing pleases Thomios more than preparing a special meal.
Vi: You know, for a minute I thought you said a platypus flyer.
Bev: Would that make Kat-Mandu the platypus cat?
Vi: And I think we’d have a hard time convincing Elvis-Anum they were real.
Newcomer: Oh, we’re real alright.
Bev: Welecome to the Library at Afar, Mr. Platypus. How can we be of assistance?
Platypus: Call me Bill. I’ve always had a hankering to visit this part of the world.
Bev: I can show you some scrolls that tell you all about us.
Bill: Thanks, Ms. I’d be much obliged. Now I couldn’t help but hear about this vegetable competition.
Vi: Would you like to take part?
Bill: Well now, veggies aren’t exactly my thing, but I’d like to help out. Work behind the scenes so to speak.
Goldie’s time as a feral cat has given her considerably more wisdom about the outside dangers. She’s the one shouting through the screen to check on Tommy and Beatrix. If she aged in this comic, she’d be the next Baba Mouse.
Captain Mole resembles colonizing a European explorer. Upon arrival, he tells the indigenous folks, “This is mine. You’ve got to leave.” Will he claim the yard for Queen Mab, hoping to become “Sir Mole?”

Umm, Captain Mole? I don’t think that that tiny little push is going to do much to make Tommy leave.
I realize that you probably don’t think it’s a tiny push, but compared to Tommy . . .

I’d offer the services of my Scottish terrier to talk some sense into those mole pirates, but I’m afraid there wouldn’t be a lot left to interview.

Star Trek crews have experienced similar receptions, but they always (almost) win them over.

I can see the “best for everybody” solution here a mile away. The moles get everything below ground level, and the cats get everything above.

BIG MISUNDERSTANDING….
He thought he heard them say they had Strawberry Cake, and they were looking for MOLE sauce.
I think they said, they brought cake and wanted some Tamales with Molé sauce.

Moles were never waiting for you, Bea
They ran one step ahead
As you sat there in the grass
Your welcome snack melting by your side
All the sweet, pink icing flowing down
Someone smooshed Bea’s cake flat, what a pain!
I don’t think that I can take it
’Cause it took so long to bake it
And she’ll never have that recipe again
Oh, no

… Yes, they would like to get to know you, if they could
Like to get to know you
Finally you’re found, gathered around
Just was not the answer
One they thought was true
So, why so angry, boo?
Hate is not the answer
Hardly need to say
You’re very rude today
Pushing Tommy over
Well it’s not war time
And seems like you think you own the clover
… Now, no promises that they’ll spend a day with you
No promises they’ll find a way with you
Can’t promise, no
No promises that they’ll like you
But they’d like to get to know you
Yes they would if they could
