Therefore, I shall resign as Dictator-for-Life effective at noon tomorrow. First Tiger Hobbes will be sworn in as Dictator-for-Life at that hour in this office.

The trouble with being dictator for life is that there are always so many people trying to make the term of office a short one.

One of the bigger disadvantages of an authoritarian regime is that succession is typically a very uncertain, and often bloody, affair.

And worst of all, Calvin’s plans were ruined by a girl. I think Calvin would rather take a hit from Moe than to admit failure at the hands of a “slimy” counterpart.

See! This is why we “delegate” our dirty work. It’s not as much fun, but we’re not to blame if our stooges are incompetent. Even the best of leaders can’t be really blamed if their stooges scru the pooch, just held responsible. There’s a difference.

Calvin says “Our brilliant plan backfired” but it was his own plan. Hobbes had a much simpler plan which might have work but Calvin didn’t listen. He hardly ever listens to Hobbes but sometimes he does.

Calvin isn’t much of a dictator. He’s a dictator who dictates but isn’t listened to.
