Wish Spaetzle the best. Taking that first step was the hard part, but start of school will show a distinct improvement in his energy and a slight change in his wardrobe measurements. Unhappily, it also will make it hard to continue the process under the load of paperwork and pressure that principles and teachers face every day.
The 2nd half of the summer after I graduated from high school, a friend and I built up to and made a 30 mi (50 km) walk. I was hurting some, but he was barely mobile.
These days I walk maybe 3 to 12 mi (5 to 20 km) about half of the time, but not every day – I don’t need to set a schedule, I want to walk./V>

And leaving the coffee behind all that time can’t hurt.

So that’s about 5 km. in metric. Most people walk that in about an hour. If he keeps it up, he’ll be walking 40 km. a day by year’s end.

Getting started is the hardest part. Then you just have to keep going.

What would really be cool is to combine the videos online with a treadmill so that you actually do walk the trails.

“The first 3.2 feet took me 60 years.”
I’m well past 60, but I still only have two feet.
