I guess the ants were attracted by Garfield’s cookie stash, which is probably one of the reasons why Jon constantly warns Garfield against sneaking food.
I’m surprised Garfield doesn’t have a super strength food locker that neither a hungry bear nor a tiny mite could get into. It would be a small investment to protect what is most important to him, food.

How does Garfield have a cookie stash? That would seem to involve not eating them immediately.

Uh oh! These aren’t those singing ants from the cartoon, are they? Because if they are, I don’t think a flamethrower will be enough…

You can do anything you want to Jon, Odie, Nermal, Arlene, and even Pooky up to a point, but put your hands on Garfield’s cookies and you are dead!
