It could be said that nectarines are the actual imposters since they are peaches without any fuzz. [Kind of like: How dare they (try to) call themselves (real) peaches?!]
We live up in the NE where they hold the annual Peachfest every year. No fruit. All music. And while they are no longer with us, a great ongoing tribute to the Allman Bros Band.
It seems to me that peaches today are much less fuzzy than they were when I was a kid. I don’t think the variety is any different, but I’m wondering if peaches have been cultivated specifically so that there is less fuzz? I remember as a kid I would get very irritated on my arms and neck (yes, my neck, from catching peaches thrown to me) and elsewhere, but now there sure seems to be a lot less fuzz on any given peach, it isn’t irritating to my skin at all, and I like to eat them right off the tree.

Botanically speaking, a nectarine is just a fuzzes peach. Sometimes peaches and nectarines will grow on the same branch.
My apologies to you all, I know the last thing you want to do while reading the comics is learn something, but there you are.

The infiltrating peach needs to buy a new razor.

If we don’t stop this, the next thing you know, plums and grapes will be disguising themselves as prunes and raisins.

I like nectarines better than peaches. They’re juicer.
