Well, that checkout sure expressed herself.

The cart looks familiar. People who do that, pay no attention the sign with the attitude, what’s another one or two extra things. I once heard someone say ‘But I have only three items’. Her reasoning was that she had only three brands. She counted the six six-packs as one brand of drink, and four bags of one variety of chips, etc.

I have never saw them turn anybody away.

What about an English major who knows it’s “10 items or FEWER?”

Or just a graduate of the country’s education system.

Ummm, I flunked college.

If he were an English major, he would have corrected the sign to say “10 items or fewer.”

“I’ll just leave the cart for you to put back, then!”

They’ve tended to drop those for self checkout.

No. (Is there a discount for either of those?)

Those people should be forced to pay double! And fined. Then forced to donate their overloaded cart to a food bank.

How many times I wanted to say that.

Thankful that rarely someone writes a check at check-out these days.

I just tap the card, praying it goes though…..

He is just a major pain.

Maybe a drop out.

Sadly, I’ve worked these before. One of the things they tell you is not to say such things – let the people waiting in line do that.

I would work the express lane sometimes and I would try to make sure I stopped people with clearly more than the 15 items but sometimes I didn’t catch them before they’d unloaded half their cart. I had one lady and I called out “Sorry, this is the express lane.” And she got rude and nasty and said I could either take her or she could go get the manager. I didn’t want trouble so I took her but didn’t smile at her or wish her a good day or anything. Express lanes are in place for a reason. And even if I didn’t care, someone behind her with only four items might have. There were plenty of other lanes open!

Actually, it’s the guy in front of The Count at the self check out every single time.

BLT is one item. PB&J is one item. Mac & Cheese. This is the stuff for tacos. Chocolate Cake from scratch. Homemade Chicken Alfredo. Trust me, I counted it out.

Guy in express lane had 4 items. Basket following him was fully loaded. He started to suggest another lane but looked that the person’s face and decided that ‘discretion was more sensible than valor,’ then checked through and left. Some times it’s the best move.

Must be at my Publix supermarket. Go to express lane with buggy full of groceries.

More like an English private.

An English Major=a Major in the British Army?

Well, technically, that “Formula” under Frank’s nose is correct. The number of items in his cart does “= N”… ☺

Maybe he has only 10 items, but has 10 of each item.

meanwhile, Ernie is playing “Dune Buggy” in the electric cart….!

Express yourself!

Maybe he is Lester and Less is his nickname. According to the sign he’d be a legitimate exception..

He snaps back, “I’m a statistics major and the probability of you keeping your job is about 10% or less”…

Maybe he’s an engineer and does not think he sign applies to him.

You got that right. But now the grocery stores funnel the ten or fewer customers into self checkout….

Is this an example of why we should have a well-rounded education?

no, he’s one who thinks a student loan doesn’t have to be repaid.

Just wanted a person to check me out instead of me doing their job, since all the other lanes are self-checkout. I now pay more for my groceries AND have to do the work of checking myself out. At least until enough people just walk out the door with unchecked groceries and it costs more for the store than hiring clerks to do the job. js

But it is only 1 cart!

Used a Publix that said fewer than 10, go to service desk. Went and stood behind 10 – 12 guys cashing pay checks. Apologized, said I thought it was a grocery store and left my items there.

This was attributed to a store clerk from Cambridge, MA, home to both Harvard University and M.I.T.

i always grumble at self-checkout when the person tallying my groceries is so slow…

Most of the stores in my city have all gone to self checkout lanes…very few lanes with employees actually doing it for you. Even the Dollar Store has 3 self checkout lanes and 1 regular lane! Walmart has gone to all self checkout lanes with only a couple of staffed lanes.

But my middle name is Les, and the only other lanes open are self checkout.
