There are things I don’t understand about the French. Why are there a bunch of well dressed men standing around watching this procedure? Why would anyone paint this picture?

I also thought that was a very tall horse, but then I saw the painting was by Toulouse-Lau-Trec. He probably painted those people as if they were about his height (4’8").
