When Eppie Lederer applied for the job of writing the Ann Landers advice column, she had to answer three questions. One asked who owns the fruit of an apple tree if its branches extend into a neighbor’s yard; she replied that the neighbor is legally entitled to any fruit on those branches. She wasn’t just guessing; before writing her answer, she consulted an old friend, William O. Douglas, who happened to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
I wish I could to this with the gigantic shagbark hickory tree that is in my front yard right next to the driveway. It’s a beautiful tree, but wow, the mess!
I just imagined the guy on the right using a long cutting tool and cutting the rope, then watching the tree rebound into the left guy’s yard, emptying its leaves on him.

Bleeb needs to get more active. He should team up with Ralph. Together they could wreak real mayhem!

Now’s the time to hook up the mechanical tree shaker he borrowed from the orchard.

Of course he is relaxing in a chair with a drink. Do you know how hard it is to get that tree down like that?

Ahhh, good ol’ neighbors! He’s already plotting his revenge.
I’m seeing another use for the tree, though! … squirrel launcher!

Yep, if on your side, you can cut it! I’d toss it back on their side afterwards!

Wait for the guy on the right to start “trimming” the branches that overhang his property.

If the neighbor cuts that rope, the leaves will all be flung to the far neighbor on the left.
