Oy – kidney stones! My husband gets ‘em. The last one was The Mother of All Kidney Stones. It required a stent, and three lithotripsies, and wound up costing our insurance company $65,000. (My mother-in-law had brain surgery for less than that.) Then, miracle of miracles, as soon as they removed the stent he passed the stone. I haven’t been to med school, but I was able to figure out that it’s hard to pass a stone when you have a piece of plastic shoved into your urethra. Anyway, hope Dan’s experience is NOTHING LIKE that . . .
I missed a Pentatonix Christmas concert due to a kidney stone 6 years ago and came close to missing a Casting Crowns concert a few months later. Apple cider vinegar got me past it. Thank God that was my last bout with them.
I took a coworker to the closer of the two military hospitals and stayed with him until his wife got off work at the farther away one. When she arrived (she is a doctor) she said he must have been in real pain to allow me to take him to the closer of the two. He was still in screaming pain when she got there (4 hours after we did), and I ended up taking his car the 3 blocks to my house after she arrived and returning it to his work space the next day. He was off work 4 days while passing the stone and his regularly scheduled weekend.
Well y’all ended 2019 with excitement didn’t you? We have all sorts of odd kidney problems in the family genes but stones doesn’t seem to be one of them. I’m sorry and hope it wasn’t reoccurring…
I’m close to finishing my reading / rereading the back issues of Amanda the Great – I’d recommend this to anyone who has added this comic recently.

Anecdotally, women I’ve spoken to who have given birth and also had kidney stones, will take giving birth every time.

Ouch. I have seen those when I was a med student. I heard that those are painful enough to make a Marine Drill Instructor cry.

I used to get them 3 or 4 times a year. When I stopped drinking iced tea and switched to drinking just water I haven’t had one since.
