/// In his office, The Art Connoisseur,

to his massive art books would refer.

    Since his eyesight’s so bad,

    all his catalogs had

twenty-four point type. (Smaller would blur.)

Looking up the name of that artist who painted ‘Venus on the Half Shell’ in the days before Wikipedia.

My original comment: Ya gotta love those large print books.

also: The downside of those large books are knee and back injuries.

Take out menus from Hooters use to be much larger, but they did have pictures off all the waitresses. It was a very popular menu to have.

He told the painter to paint him with a book so people think he’s smart. After the first two versions where he griped that the book was barely visible, Christian provided the version above.

The Art Connoisseur or The office of an amateur

    Paste (including the quote marks)

"Category:1879 oil on canvas paintings" Wikimedia

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found, and once there find the text string Bokelmann, and click its link for info and links that point to more info (perhaps best viewed using the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browsers, which can automatically translate most webpages if necessary) about this roughly jumbo envelope size painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by merely clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s THROWBACK THURSDAY: MASTERPIECE #2202 (5/15/19) (December 13, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment. I have added a comment there (awaiting Mr. Melcher’s approval) pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, 2 works by him have been used here (3 times total, including this Throwback Thursday repeat), the May 15, 2019, strip being its first use. The February 22, 2018, strip has the prior by him.

It was examples like this that eventually led the publishing industry to adopt a commonly accepted definition of the term “unabridged”.

    Funny … not funny.

Christian Ludwig Bokelmann: He died after falling off a ladder in his studio, while attempting to hang a laurel wreath that had been given to him by his students on the occasion of his 50th birthday.
