It is so old it is a Dad word.

If she’s talking about an old person’s hands, say, gnarly is fine. If it’s the old slang word, then avoid. In general, slang doesn’t age well in children’s books.

My son is 9 and he uses the word “mid” to describe certain things. “Mom, green beans aren’t good or bad. They’re kind of mid” Uhh, thanks, I think?

I mean, even making up slang doesn’t quite work – look at the phrases made up for “West Side Story”!

I remember when “gnarly” was the new slang — and I wasn’t all that young myself then!

That’s not a word I’ve hear anyone say in my lifetime.

I say gnarly at least thrice per fortnight.

“Gnarly” is an interesting word in that it has contradictory senses.

Zoe also objects to ancient phrases such as “Clean Your Room”

Zoe, Zoe, Zoe, that is the whole point, to broaden ones vocabulary, to expand ones mind and to challenge one intellectually.

It’s nifty – really neat.

Yeah, hate to say it, but it makes more sense to use modern slang instead of our gen’s slang (any gen except the modern one). It’s silly and a lot of them don’t make sense, but just as normalized “grody” and made “sick” into something good, they did too.

Fire, lit, no cap, for real, cap, slay, ect

Using the proper King’s English is always an option too, you know.
