Must admit that I have read a lot of cereal boxes in my time. They taught me words like “niacin” and “thiamine”. But that was because as a kid I would read anything rather than doing nothing. Waiting in the car for my mom I read the owner’s manual at about age 8, because it was there.

Always read the offers to send in for on the backs of the boxes.

A memory: In junior high a friend of mine decided to do her oral book report on “The Promise” by Danielle Steel. To make matters worse, when she started her report, she said that it was by Danielle Spencer (the actress who played the little sister on the sitcom “What’s Happening!”). Yeah, she didn’t get a great grade on that report.

Sometimes you can read a cereal box for the nutrition facts food label.

During the 50’s, some of the cereal boxes were full of things to read on that back. The cereal companies did that to attract kids to their product. Imagine that! If you did that today, I am not sure if even the parents could read them let alone the kiddies!

I practiced by reading the newspapers (comics) and cereal boxes. They had amusing things for kids on them.

Considering how many times Snicker Snax appears in the strip, I’m a little surprised nobody tried to make a real cereal with that name…or did they?
