Maggie says, "you missed the bus. So you walk to school." Twig says, "But if I miss my first period test, I'll flunk!" Ames says, "You should have thought about that an hour ago." Twig says, "But I won't get into college! Then I'll have to live with you for the rest of my life!" Maggie says, "Homeland security can prosecute you for making terroristic threats." Twig says, "So will you drive me?" Ames says, "I give up the terrorist has won."

So now what’s her incentive to get her keister out the door on time?

I’d have made her walk. She can plead her case with the teacher for a makeup exam.

Our children learned their bus route so they could run to the next stop if they missed the bus.

“I don’t negotiate with terrorists.”
The line I always used with my kids was “Lunch time on your 18th birthday, you’re outta here. Better have a plan!”
(I didn’t actually hold the older one to it, because he actually had a plan and was doing upgrading before college. The younger one was still in high school when he turned 18 so I didn’t feel like I could actually kick him out right then either, so he got a 6 month stay of execution. But I would have pulled the trigger on both if they weren’t in school or employed.)
