Back in the day Bob Newhart did a skit as a grocery store owner. His least favorite customer was a man holding a shopping list. His favorite was the way Arlo was depicted here, a man without the list.

And that is why Arlo bought so much. Trying to cover all the possibilities……………..

For a brief minute Arlo was a winner. Is there shame in phoning home and saying is there anything else you wanted from the store besides uh, you know?

Reminds me of an Elayne Boosler joke. The guy went to the store for eggs and milk, bought about fifty other things, and came home with no eggs or milk.

I was going to make a comment about this being the reason why you make out a list, but I’ve brought a list and forgot to buy one of the items on it.

If they have dishwashing liquid, they can use that in the laundry. Also, shampoo and/or body wash work as substitutes. Wait, I’ll bet Arlo forgot those, too, didn’t he?!

I am convinced there is a magnetic strip as you walk in the grocery that stimulates your brain to pick up things you recognize and forget the things you want.

I’ve done this in the parking lot. Sometimes it makes you angry enough to drive off. Sometimes it makes you angry enough to go back in the store.

For 20 years our condo was right across the street from my favorite grocery store. I made at least 1 trip there everyday and usually a second trip to get what I initially went there for. We’ve recently moved. We’re still inside the city loop but the nearest grocery store is 8 minutes away. My memory, all of a sudden, has improved greatly. My wife gets mad when I tell everyone that we moved out to the country, out in the sticks.

one Thanksgiving Day, i was sent to the store to get so thyme, as we had just ran out, and my 2 grandsons, 6 & 5 accompanied me, and i returned about half an hour later having spent some $50 (and this was like 25 years ago) and forgot the thyme

THIS i why they keep rearranging the stock in the stores now. They WANT you to take (at least) 2 trips.

A prepared list has two positive effects: it ensures you get what you need, and, it ensures you don’t get what you don’t need. A list is probably the single best thing to reduce the cost of groceries. When the kids were young I would arrange the list in the order the store was laid out, to save time. Look out, I’m shopping here!

Suddenly Janet is obscured from the shoulders up. My imagination wants to believe that she took her top off. Of course, no one would undress to put away groceries, but it is nice to think about.

Been there , done that a million times. I haven’t left the apartment in 3 months due to dealing with my sister being in hospital for 3 weeks and then dying and then I need to have a pacemaker put in a week after she passed and couldn’t do heavy lifting for 6 weeks plus been crying every day and too depressed to leave house so Dad has been doing my shopping for me- I give him the list and the check card and he gets the stuff, well I have gottent to the point that later in the day after I gave him the list that I forgot to put something on the list so then I have to send him an email to add item to list. I did that just Monday night, gave him my list then about 3 hours later had a bit of a coughing fitting, beeen fighting this cold for 5 weeks now, and as I was couging I remembered that I only had about 2 doses of cough syrup left so I had to send an email to have him add that to the list.

Iheart keeps playing the ad from some mortgage company that implies one should take out a second mortgage to afford things at the grocery store. I feel a little horrified at the thought every time I hear it.
