Bet you any money they hired the same guy that counted all those salmon to follow an alligator around for ~50 yrs. counting the regrowth of his lost teeth..
87 years old, pretty impressive paddling the length of the Mississippi, but I presume he was going with the current not against it…The number of salmon getting to Bristol Bay may be a record for recent times but probably not back in the times before the overfishing, pollution, damming, and other problems for salmon took place.

OK, small detail omitted: was Dale “Grey Beard” Sanders doing it upstream or down?
And why, if he’s from Tennessee, does he spell the color gray the British way?

Who counted the salmon?

I call BS on that alligator. He’d be rich from the tooth-fairy loot and have door-dash bring him fish.

How long does it take to count 76 million salmon? Do they use a calculator? Or, like… count on their fingers?

Must have been the year for the Sockeye Salmon Census.

That’s a lot of teeth! Wouldn’t it be nice if our teeth grew back in when we lost them?

If you put a boat in the river you can go the whole length without a single paddle. Just keep it from beaching.

Dale, was that down stream or up?

Did old Grey Beard paddle up or down the Mississippi?

I thought it was sharks who had instantly replaceable teeth

Well, if the gators would switch to donuts (like me) they wouldn’t go through so many teeth

The Mississippi is 2,340 miles, so Mr. Sanders averaged slightly under 27 miles per day.
I call that pretty impressive for an 87 year old man.
Actually I call it impressive for anyone.

Did Grey Beard paddle south to north or north to south?
