So, now they throw a bunch of names at us, but I suspect that they might not have any relevance to the upcoming story. Right now, I’m thinking these are just a throwaway cameo mention, but I could be wrong. Mike loves comic strip history.
Captain Easy, Soldier of Fortune was an adventure strip that ran from 1933 until 1988, a spin-off from the strip, Wash Tubbs. More about the Captain Easy strip: https://en.wikipedia.Org/wiki/Captain_Easy
J.P. McKee was a character in the same strip. Here are a few sample strips with both characters: https://comicbookplus.Com/?dlid=76562
The Kallikaks were also in the Captain Easy strip, based on The Kallikak Family: A Study in the Heredity of Feeble-Mindedness, I think.
Daddy Big Bux is looking trim these days. Must be a make over, like Dick got yesterday. Maybe they should change that guy’s name to Captain Take It Easy as he is no help to anyone. I bet Daddy owns the castle depicted in the painting.
Well… At least now we know why Sam didn’t think it was worth bothering Tracy on his lunch break and waited until Dick was back in the office before telling him, “Oh, hey, Warbucks called while you were out. Wanted a couple more cameo references.”
1-DT: Sam’s undercover operation at the High School has turned up rumors that you’re behind the Wacky Tobakky, the Mary Jane, the First Step To A Hard Fall trade.
2-OLLI: Don’t waste your time, Tracy. I’ve bought up enough state representatives to make it legal in the next session. Then I’ll just be an entrepreneur who was a bit ahead of the game.
3-DT: Great! Not having to enforce that will free up a lot of time! Can you make them do something about all the guns and “Open Carry”? My guys are getting shot to pieces and we got more gunshot investigations than we can handle.
OLLI: Lemme thingk a – NO YOU IDIOT! Have you not seen the dozens of WARBUX WEAPONS OF WAR stores all over town??? And besides, the framers of the Constitution guaranteed me the right to arm every citizen in town at a nice profit to myself. Now apologize to the Founding Fathers!
One thing that’s changed—Harold Gray always had Warbucks darting in and out of bankruptcy and fighting his way back to solvency.Since the “merger”,he’s stayed rich.
This is apparently Mr.Am’s hotel, the one Warbucks once said was too expensive even for him.
Just my opinion: I have feeling the crossover has real potential here, so long it sticks to a direct plot without crowding in too many frills. After all, both strips exist within a serious contest. Admittedly, the art today hs a part in this impression.
Me? I’m waiting for the Darkwing Duck cameo! But then I freely admit I’m a nut case and enjoy it.
Did the writer for Gil Thorp take over this strip? I read it every day and feel like I’m checking in once a week. I have no idea what’s going on! Worse, I don’t really care…
In the old days, I got acquainted with KERRY DRAKE and NOMAD/ROPER in the old LONG ISLAND PRESS.
Mike was looking after a homeless teen named Lank Botkins, who found out hanging out with a wild man like Nomad was more dangerous than living on the street
DW: Oh and can you get your little friend in the bow tie OUT of my money vault. He seems to be filling his pockets and cackling something like ‘Take THAT, McDuck!’.

Pretty funny how yesterday I was really the only one who didn’t complain about the artwork AND welcomed Charles to team Tracy.
And I’m always the bad guy! Lol!

Liking the art today. Plus, static positioning, but there’s a feeling of motion. If that makes sense.
