Even if he was stolen, he would’ve pounced his way back.

Hobbes was hiding under the bed covers? Better not tell the other tigers. He’d lose his jungle cred.

I wonder why Dad hadn’t abandoned his family years ago. Like the day Calvin was born.

In my city toddlers etc don’t seem to become emotionally attached to a toy like they did back in the day…unless it’s mummy’s cellphone.

Last we saw Hobbes, he was sitting outside the front door in his stuffie identity, where young master threw him in a pre-emptive revenge snit, so how he got under those covers will be forever a mystery. My guess is that “Dad” put him up there before they left and didn’t let on, in a bid to teach the value of not being a juvenile sociopath.

As I say, this story arc largely reinforced my original view that Hobbes really is a stuffed doll. That would be my view until April 1992.

When I started reading this strip, I assumed the living Hobbes was part of Calvin’s wonderful imagination. I started to question this in May 1988 when I read my first book collection and saw two strips in which Hobbes is alive – and speaks directly to us – when completely alone. In the first of these strips, Calvin attempted to use his bedsheet as a parachute while jumping from his bedroom window. Hobbes remained in his living form after Calvin had jumped from the window and made a CRUNCH! That surprised me as I had expected Hobbes to be a stuffed doll again when he was alone. Hobbes then commented to us, “His Mom’s going to have a fit about those rose bushes!”

Look at Calvin hugging Hobbes…that’s the cutest I’ve ever seen him! Awww.

I’m waiting to hear Hobbes’ version of the events as they had unfolded! :D

Hobbes can live again.

Why are you looking in the basement? Have you forgotten you’ve left Hobbes in your room?!

And tomorrow, Calvin The Terrible arises, ready to take on the world.

We are in trouble if Mom and Dad start believing Hobbes real…

Here come the waterworks again

Aww, this is so sweet, Calvin reunited with his best friend. Now, to discover what, if anything was taken and get in touch with the police and the insurance company.

So, Hobbes was found under the bed covers, exactly where he was when the family left. How interesting.

Imagine the money he could have made if Bill Watterson allowed a Hobbes doll to be licensed. I’m glad he didn’t.

Excuse me, I’ve just got a bruschetta in my eye.

Calvin’s face shows frantic joy in panel 3 and heartfelt relief in panel 4- all with just a few pens strokes! Well done.

It’s not often that Calvin shows his sensitive, caring self.

That was a close one!

Even when I was six I’m sure that “under the bed covers” would have been the first place I looked for a missing stuffed animal. Maybe the second.

They’re finally reunited! I can picture the KPM stock music track “Poetic Love Theme B” by Mladen Franko (as heard on “Ren & Stimpy”) playing underneath this strip.

Awww. Glad Hobbes is fine. I knew he’d be there.
