    The best thing that can be said about sardines is that they aren’t anchovies.

    I’ve had fresh grilled sardines with olive oil and lemon juice in Italy and it was almost a transcendant experience, because I thought canned sardines tasted … musty or something … unpleasant.

    Simple math.

    Pizza = 1

    Sardine = 0

    Pizza x Sardine = 0

    Pizza – Sardine = 1

    I like anchovies on pizza. Using sardines instead never occurred to me. And now that it’s been mentioned…nope.

    How did this become a popular British P(English?) dish? Same with beans on toast? I like all three, but would never think of putting baked beansOR sardines on toast. . .

    Hmmm, sardines on garlic toast? That should make some sweet breath. Sounds tasty though. Maybe, my stomach just turned a little bit thinking about it.

    Mix them with smashed boiled egg (think egg salad), a bit of mustard, and some Miracle Whip, eaten on a cracker. Delish!
