How to retire when business is poor

Two elderly men met in a town in Florida, and began to talk to each other. It turned out both of them were from Oregon, and had owned small factories, and had now retired and moved to Florida.

“I had a factory that produced high-end furniture,” said the first man. “Was successful for many years, made lots of money. But now the market is changing, cheap imported furniture is taking over. My company ran at a loss for a couple of years, and I didn’t know what to do. And then one night there was a fire, and the whole damn factory burned down. I could have built a new factory with the insurance money, but you know, I figured I was old enough that it was time to retire. So I just took the insurance money, and here I am.”

“Wow,” said the second man. “That’s so similar to my story. I had a factory that built speedboats. Lots of success for many years, made lots of money. But speedboat technology keeps changing faster and faster, and I wasn’t keeping up, and I started to lose money. Then one day there was an earthquake, and the factory building collapsed! Luckily I was insured, just like you, and I decided to retire, ‘take the money and run’, and now here I am.”

The first man gazed wide-eyed at the second man for several seconds, Then, in a low voice, he asked, “How do you arrange an earthquake?”

How does anyone know that moths can’t fly during an earthquake?

Can’t fly? Or won’t fly? I don’t see how an earthquake could keep anythinb from flying (landing is different though).

Why Can’t Moths Fly in an Earthquake?Moths use their antennae and other body part sensors always to know where they are in the world. They can also gather data that lets them know which way is up, forward, and down.

This helps create a balanced moth and allows it to fly efficiently.

These signals are thought to be jumbled or lost in translation during an earthquake as the entire earth shakes around them.

It cannot gather the orientation it needs for its brain to tell its wings where to go and how to fly. In other studies, scientists have removed the moth’s antennae to see if they could fly, but they could not.

An analysis of the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan on 3/11/2011 has found that the intense temblor has accelerated Earth’s spin, shortening the length of the 24-hour day by 1.8 microseconds, according to geophysicist Richard Gross at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

For roughly a year and a half, I was stationed on a ship in Yokosuka, Japan which was southeast of Tokyo. While on shore there, I never felt so much as one earthquake. But a few years ago I felt a tremor that originated from a place in my east coast state more than 75 miles from me. Go figure!

How do you prove moths CAN’T fly during an earthquake? Maybe they just don’t fly during earthquakes. Maybe they like the jiggling earth under their little feet.

How do seismologists know Taylor Swift’s concert caused the seismic activity, and did not just coincide with it?

Moths can’t fly during an earthquake because they don’t have an instrument rating on their pilot’s license.

Is it Taylor Swift’s sound system, or the scream of tens of thousands of girls, that causes the earthquakes?
