This was a running theme throughout comics for decades- characters receive a letter to announce a visit- and the visitor is arriving that very same day. Not a phone call, which would deliver he message right away. A letter, dropped in the mail and left to the post office to deliver- and somehow always timed to arrive on the day the train is pulling in.

Only worked then, because of a very high percentage of the trains arrived on time.
