Ms. Asthma was hard for Annie to get along with. She always seemed to be punishing Annie. Mrs. Warbucks wanted to use Annie to enhance her social standing, but she found Annie to be annoying. It was only with “Daddy” that Annie found her niche. I think she’s content with it now.
Bob Smith has to get going …. he has to visit the wife of another former client of his & tell her he recently found an envelope in his garage from years ago stuck up with strawberry jam that had evidence exonerating her husband. Too bad he went to the chair ,….
Someone please notify me when this strip goes back to Dick Tracy. Tracy standing in a Little Orphan Annie strip does not make it Dick Tracy. I hope this going to turn into a trend. Maybe next we can have Tracey standing in an Alley Oop or Little Abner story…
Mrs. Warbucks wore that dress a couple years ago when picking Annie up at the orphanage? Was she on her way to a 1920s themed party?
Mixed metaphors can be intentionally funny, or just reflect a writer who isn’t thinking. I don’t think the mixed chronologies were done for intentional humor.
I normally just nitpick the art, but even I have begun to wonder … is there a story here? This seems to be a months-long origin for a character who isn’t even part of the Dick Tracy cast. If they did a story (an actual story with a plot) that, say, revealed Liz’s past, that would be enormously more interesting.
“ANNE! Keep scrubbing! I want every vestige of that happy floral pattern REMOVED from the linoleum floors. On all TEN levels!!! Then the Red Sea had better be properly parted and combed by noon or no week-old gruel for YOU!”
And on it drags. Like a smoker on his last cigarette butt. Like a killer trying to hide his 350lb victim. Like an internet “celebrity” who did something to annoy the kind of people who follow that kind of stuff. ** Like Rupaul and his TV show.
Drag per current slang means to insult (in case you haven’t noticed that word’s use in “cool” commercials and TV shows.)
Yes, I read the origin story in one of the cartoon strip history books that were in my personal library inside my parents’ house long ago before they were given away = groan!! Note – they went into the defunct market as well!
1-ANNIE: What has a thumb, dead parents and could kill a useless lawyer and only serve a few years in Juvie for it? THIS GUY!DT: Only if I figured out you were the killer and that is very unlikely. ANNIE: Good point…
2-…I can picture you 10 years from now, your white hair pulled back in a “cool” bun, still mad at the only murder you could never solve. And…
3-…having finally recognized the source of his general discontent, Sam – Samantha after the operation – becomes Tracyville’s Hostess With The Mostest with the high society Deli Crowd.
Oliver Warbucks did have ONE girl of interest during the Starr years—-Angela Peace. Beautiful, intelligent…and haunted by herindustrial captain father,w ho specialized in deforestation.
Finally, after all these years, I get to see the mysterious Mrs. Warbucks. She never to my knowledge appeared in the “Little Orphan Annie” comic again, despite numerous appearances by “Daddy” Warbucks.
Somehow I miss Harvey Kurtzman’s and Will Elder’s “Little Annie Fanny,” with Sugardaddy Bigbucks, the Wasp, and Shazam.

Tomorrow this strip will be officially renamed Annie Gray-Warbucks (although GoComics will continue to list it as Dick Tracy for at least a month)….

I don’t care for these crossovers. What’s next “Love Is” or “Cathy”?

Oliver Warbucks was married? And, why does she look something like Carol Burnett’s Miss Hannigan?

The first Mrs. Warbucks took her share of the fortune and went to Europe, and went broke trying to break into society there.
She ended up as the housekeeper to a famous surgeon, who operated on Annie when she was paralyzed falling off a circus trapeze. They reconciled.
And don’t worry…Tracy will eventually get into t he “cold case” of Annie’s parents. Heck, it took 19 years to get interested in the Oodles case…..

Harold Gray did give Mrs. Warbucks a redemption arc before he wrote her out of the comic.
