People that use their phones (non hands free) really tick me off. Waitrose shoppers seem to be the worst. The number of times I’ve seen someone get into their car (usually some big SUV), turn the engine on and THEN get their phones out to have a natter. What the hell
Friend bought a car with indicators that flash whenever it senses a drift into another lane. He has begun using his cell phone more while driving and his drifting actually has worsened. You’d think he’d get the message, but I think he has heard the alert so often he doesn’t even notice it. Also think he’ll have serious reason not to ignore it much longer.
Whenever I see a driver using a phone, I honk at him or her. It’s not road rage, I figure that since they are not looking at me, I have to let them know that I am there just to be safe.
Almost all of my driving is under 20 minutes. There is no phone call I can think of that is so important that I can’t wait 20 minutes to pick it up. On longer trips I generally have a co-pilot. It is a co-pilot’s duty to raise and lower the gear and to make the radio calls. She also plays with the air conditioner and changes the CDs in the player.
A vehicle going at 70 mph on the freeway covers about 106 feet per second, a truck pulling a 52 foot trailer is over 70 feet long and you’re texting three car spaces behind it. If that truck had to panic stop you will see Jesus.

The car is the modern phone booth. Driving is an annoyance that has to be ignored for the important purpose of texting.

In some states, who care about their citizens, texting while driving is illegal. If cops spot you with a phone in your hand, they will stop you.

You know, texting and driving would actually be a good thing if they figured a way to only kill their stupid selves.

This is like the laws against following too closely, they appear to only be enforced AFTER the collision.
