Here’s a better idea: Go to American Legion Post 447 in Wyandotte, Michigan, the perfect place to park to watch trains and learn about the history of the former Grand Trunk Western, Lake Shore & Michigan Southern and Michigan Central , and Detroit Toledo & Ironton lines that run through the area. It might not be your ideal vacation, but it sure is somebody’s!
Throughout my childhood, we went camping (all eight of us) every summer. We traveled around different states, saw the sites, but always with our tent. For years, I didn’t know that there was any other way to do vacation. I suppose it made the most financial sense with our large family.
I recall one vacation arc where Darryl thought they were going to his parents’ house, and Wanda thought they were going to hers. They ended up just stopping at a hotel (motel?) and had a wonderful time.

True Story: I consider it among the most important achievements of my dadhood that I NEVER set foot into that hideous bacteria pit.

Really? Are they that stingy?

Set up tents in the back yard, put the pool by the sand box so you’ll have a beach and voila, lake side camping. Can’t get any cheaper than that.

John Oliver did a hilarious…and informative 30 min segment on the history of Chuck E Cheese. It’s on YouTube.
