I don’t. I wouldn’t be shocked to learn that Mopey is really that dense when it comes to anything concerning athletics.

PETE, moving heavy table: “I was bigger than Feige and Gunn! Now, all I hear is—the VOICE from the JUKEBOX!” (struggles with table) “ScarJo stood next to me! And every Chris liked me! And…and…I’m sure the talking raccoon was real!” “PETE!” shrieks whoever she is. “You’re dragging our priceless 1950s Futura Formica table into traffic! Just like you did with the signed Tiffany lamp! Like when you replaced every toilet roll with copies of Flash #123!” His mind stirs. “Pete”? Has he heard this name before? “Pete…?” he mutters in confusion. He, and whoever she is, and the weird 108-year old all try not to vomit at once. They fail. (ALL RUN OVER BY TRUCK; END SCENE)

Wait, LEAGUE sponsor? That means they’d be providing uniforms and who knows what else for all the teams. Now we’re talking maybe tens of thousands of dollars. Or did Batty forget what Ed was asking already?

Pete can’t be ignorant as to the practice of advertising by sponsoring sports teams. It’s even spread to the US major pro sports leagues.

True story: some years back, a dental practice specializing in tooth replacements sponsored a teenage girls’ softball team. The girls ran on the field wearing tight t-shirts that proclaimed “Kruzinski’s IMPLANTS”!

Doesn’t have much to do with today’s strip, but I thought it was funny. And after reading Cranky Funkershaft, I figured we all needed a bit of that.

    Nice bricks.

But where are the smirks? Can’t be a Batiuk strip without smirks!

I know someone in the strip who is well-versed in fundraising for uniforms. Thankfully he’s not here this week… yet.

If you go over to the “Son of Stuck Funky” website today, you can get a nice retrospective of the first time that Montoni’s sponsored a baseball team—back when Montoni’s was actually being run by Montoni. And there are a few good gags in that run because it was back when Tom was actually making an effort to be funny.
