Did you check the price of grapes? You may want to rethink this… Not to speak of the equipment and work involved. And the fermenting wine smell is not for everyone.
I dabbled in home brewing and wine making for a bit but a friend of mine got so carried away he ended up buying an orchard that included a vineyard. His retirement income from the small operation has far outpaced what he earned in his old job. My own wines and beers were never that good and to be honest I wasn’t that motivated.
One of the factors in the taste of wine, is the yeast used to make it. Had a co-worker who was making his own wine and he was using regular bread yeast from the supermarket. It tasted like bread. I I told him he should name his wine Chez Langendorf. He wasn’t happy.
I’m not much of a wine drinker but I do buy a bottle now and then, mainly when someone has me over for dinner. I’m usually able to find any number of options for wine that is good enough to give as a gift at prices that seem perfectly reasonable.
Overf the years we have had about 4 wineries open in our small rural town and they all do very well. I also have friends that make their own wine and some also make their own beer. I don’t drink alcohol so I don’t know how they are but other freinds rave out them.

If you are complaining about the cost of wine, you might be drinking too much.

For years I brewed my own beer, and the guy next door made wine; we had a sweet little barter system going.

Mom, give dad time to realize that making a good wine is a long time consuming process. He’ll give it up within the month.

My brother once made rhubarb wine. It was even worse than it sounds.
