A cat marionette gift in a house full of cats. I wonder what the real motivation was for the person who gave that gift? That marionette does not stand a chance.
This brings back memories of wooden bird marionettes my sister and I had. And yes, the strings immediately tangled and they were abandoned to the bottom of the toy bin. Years later I found them and had the dexterity and patience to untangle them and finally got them working.
What ever happened to “given”? The current epidemic of “gifted,” “gifting,” etc. drives me more bonkers than I have any right to be! GRRRRR GRRRRR GRRRRR
I actually made one of my own once for a county fair sometime around my pre-teens, I think? Won a prize for it too (the judge apparently thought it was brilliant).
How much they pays for spaghetti tiger? A fistful of dollars? Could they gets better one for a few dollars more? Does they knows the good the bad and the ugly side of spaghetti tigers? What the name of spaghetti tiger? Ringo? Django? Or is he just the tiger with no name?
This cartoon made me remember a very successful puppeteer who lived in St. Louis; Bob Kramer and his Marionettes. His workshop and studio were directly west of St. Louis University, and decades ago, I would see him some morning when I ran from SLU to Forest Park and back. He would always smile and wave. Sadly, Bob Kramer died in a fire at his home and studio last year, but his legacy lives on. Bob Kramer is survived by his partner and collaborator, Dug F e l t c h.
I forgot to mention yesterday that there’s a new hurricane churning into the Caribbean. Beryl is a major storm heading west towards Barbados and the Windward Islands. Please keep the folks in Beryl’s path in your thoughts!
One Christmas when we were about 9 and 10, my brother and I received marionettes of Prince Charming and Cinderella. Cinderella was dressed in her peasant costume so, while the Prince could appear in any scene, it was rather a problem for Cinderella to go to the Ball. No problem thought I, the young seamstress who had recently costumed every doll in the house for a lavish wedding, I’ll just make her a ball gown! Well, changing costumes on a marionette involves much unstringing and restringing the strings through sections of the clothing. I decided it wasn’t worth it, so all the plays we did for the marionettes plus other supporting stuffed animal characters and dolls temporarily supplied with strings involved adventures outside the palace. Actually they were more fun.

Scoff if you will but heroes like Ora Zella are why we are not overrun with spaghetti tigers.

I’m glad the children were not given a marionette. That would have made it worse.

Based on a true story.
And probably a lot closer to the true story than most “Based on a true story” stories are.

I wonder if the tiger marionette is a tribute to the wonderful Calvin and Hobbes strip.

It as if a occult hand is came down from above and pulled the strings on the puppet tiger.

Ora Zella needs and deserves lots of cuddles and hugs after her provoked attack of the Spaghetti Tiger.

Six a.m., the house is quiet, then I read “Spaghetti Tiger” and let out a very loud laugh that made Hamilton and Holmes jump.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the Palace Kitchen in Egypt
Thomios: Trevor-Hotep’s Early Tomato Plants are coming in. It looks like we’ll have plenty of pasta sauce.
Sue Chef: I think the pantry’s full of spaghetti from where we know not.
Thomios: I’m not sure the spaghetti is from the Royal Procurers. Vi and Tash are in Afar, and Alice and Agnes are at a reunion at Punn State.
Sue Chef: Still, they have connections all over the known world. Maybe a friend of theirs from the Ancient And Accepted Procurer’s Guild brought it.
Enter Lupinium, Accompanied by a Tiger
Lupinum: Have you met my friend, Sam Semolina?
Thomios: Pleased to meet you, Mr. Semolina!
Sam: Call me Sam, although some call me Spaghetti Tiger.
Thomios: Thank you for all this pasta. Can you join us for supper tonight?
Sam: Love to. I’ve heard about your delicious meals, and I would definitely like to try one.
Sue Chef: And we have plenty of tomatoes. I’m going to ask Ora Zella if she can crush some of them.
Lupinium: Don’t forget to save enough sauce for me.
Sam: Is it time for you to go pink?
Lupinium: Yep. It’s coming up on Vacation Scroll School season.
