Well, since almost no one puts theirs down for long the batteries would be ruined under constant charging.

I have a wind-up radio/flashlight/phone charger combination. It’s for emergencies when the power is off.

I have actually seen (pictures of) a device that charges your laptop while you pedal it … as you use the laptop.

Another bad assumption. So-called sedentary lifestyle has nothing to do with self-winding watches. You can still buy watch winders, a device which moves a watch around to activate the self-winding mechanism. Also, why a veggie cart when there are so many farmers markets still around (at least in my area)?

If a separate device — a watch winder — is needed (for some people), I can see why self-winding watches went by the wayside.

And now we are gravitating to watches as an auxiliary to the phone. Next, a body-worn NFC pack that recharges from our movements. Or, ’ya know, it feels like lunchtime.

If one keeps plowing the same ground over and over, it can become non-productive. Glad it’s Friday.

Actually, I may be the only who thinks a self charging phone that would charge while one is walking/moving is a good idea. I think kids and teens may hate a phone like that because they would actually have to go out and play and move around to feed their phone addiction, but at least they’d get some exercise in every day. You may have to build a really robust one to give to the youngsters for what will probably become rough and tumble play outside.

I have seen windup flashlights, so a cell phone with a hand crank on the back would be fitting, especially for crank calls.

For sedentary office workers, I have always promoted pedal powered computers.

When it comes to checking what time it is, I use my wrist watch, I hardly ever use the phone for that. I also have a clock on the mantle which I do check when I’m watching TV.

This is a good idea. If your power goes out for a long time there are no chargers.

Why not attach the self-winding phone to the jaw? Most phones will be charged 100% 100% of the time.
