Nixon was a consummate opportunist. If he were alive today, he would eagerly embrace the MAGA cult, and he would milk its suckers for all the money he could get. His southern strategy was largely responsible for how the GQP brought the racists and bible thumpers into their anti-government coalition.

In 1972, I told my conservative friends (in those days there was such a thing) that Nixon was a crook as he ran for reelection. The night Nixon resigned, in August 1974, I called one of those friends and said, ‘I told you he was a crook.’ My conservative friend admitted I was right. When Ford pardoned Nixon, I told a friend as we were driving back from church that this is a bad precedent, And now here we are 50 years later, with our federal courts tying themselves in knots trying to placate another Republican crook, and it’s true, this one is worse than Nixon, but both of them are accused of committing crimes against the American political system itself. So n Nixon does not look better; he set the precedent.

And at this time, only one state court system has been left to uphold the rule of law that a Trump-supporting judge in Florida and a Supreme Court majority are dithering so as not to offend their master.

I disagree with the Nixon statement. Tricky Dicky looks just as bad now as he did when he was ousted. His record is just a blot on the tradition of the American presidency. It’’s just that Buttercup has taken chicanery a lot further than TD.

If history proves anything, it is that malefactors like Buttercup likely will skate on all but the most heinous of his crimes. And he’ll still get soft sentencing on most of the worst.

I’m voting for the guy with the most arrests, indictments, impeachments, and raids on his private residence, because that’s the guy the establishment wants to get rid of for putting the American people first.

Nixon was a crook, an awful person and IMO responsible for the Kennedy assassinations…but he was a patriot.

I’m watching all the GOP leadership denouncing the results of the trial. There is only one word to describe them: crybabies. They didn’t get what they wanted so they are screaming and crying and laying on the floor and kicking their feet. Metaphorically, of course.

But with the great orange menace’s antics, Nixon isn’t looking so bad anymore.
