I saw my first one on the road the other day and that was the first thought I had that is a very ugly vehicle. I can’t see how it can be called a truck
Henry Ford bought land in the U.P. of Michigan to have a supply of wood to make auto bodies. Many years ago, we visited a ghost town that remained in that location.
My favourite type of video at the moment is the Cybertrukkk cautiously navigating terrain my 20 year old Hyundai hatchback doesn’t eve notice, while carrying more.
I read an article about Tesla’s claim that the truck was faster than a Porsche (reaching a certain speed) while towing a Porsche (don’t remember the model). They tested it and it was not, in fact, faster than the Porsche. HOWEVER, it only missed it by fractions of a second and that is mighty impressive.
Readers’ comments alerted me to the Tesla Cybertruck notion, but I thought to myself: Nah, these cartoons are from years ago. Then I remembered Amend is posting new ones on Sunday. So I went searching (I’m not familiar with Tesla vehicles: my Prius Prime is quite good enough, thank you very much), and found a perfect match: www-dot-wired-dot-com-slash-story-slash-why-tesla-cybertruck-looks-weird. I wonder if Amend was looking at that photo when he drew this strip.
The thing I’ve never got about the cybertruck is how NOT aerodynamic it is in comparison to other cars. And this definitely matters, because the better the aerodynamics, the better the efficiency, gas or electric, because then the car doesn’t have to work as hard against the friction of the air moving past it. And Elon Musk may be a lot of things, but he does definitely know a thing or two about physics still, so it’s weird, even for him, to just ignore that for the sake of pushing ahead with a car that looks like a block of steel with a couple of the corners lobbed off at random.
I’ve seen one near where I work. My only question is how the heck do they even see out?! The back (tinted) window is up so high and the side windows are small!
So does the boys’ version have a two-part accelerator pedal where the upper part comes loose and gets itself jammed up under a projection in front of it so that the accelerator just keeps accelerating?
When the Cybertruck was first released, Pontiac Aztek owners everywhere broke out the champaign because they no longer owned the all-time ugliest vehicle.
We have one tooling around our neighborhood. First time I saw it I thought it was a joke of some kind. I still think it is. I think Elon sat down, drew up the ugliest car/truck he could think of, and then sat back waiting to see just how many morons would pay $140,000 for it. Quite a few I guess! (:O
Saw one in person this week. Have always thought it was utterly ridiculous but was surprised that it looks better in person. Doesn’t hurt that, when parked, they set closer to the ground and that really helps. Strong DeLorean vibes.

I saw one in my town last Friday! SO much larger than I’d expected. Be a nice companion to my (imagined) DeLorean.

I read that it takes 7 years to make up for the ecological cost of manufacturing an electric vehicle before there’s a net benefit to the environment.

Thought it was ugly first time a saw a picture of it years ago. Seen a few on the road and they look just as ugly IRL.
