Corporate mandated Christmas music season at my hardware store was the worst. There are just so many times a day one can listen to Barbra sing “Jingle” Bells or hear James Brown scream that he loves me over the store’s Muzak system before going insane. To reset I would walk out to my car at lunch and at day’s end and crank up some “Stones” or “Black Sabbath”.
I rarely listen to the radio the entire month of December. Some stations I won’t turn on starting in November. One local store, that I do like, has good music. The regional manager programmed it and it covers all gene from the 60s to present.

How true! When I worked in retail during the holidays hearing those Christmas songs over and over day in and day out was maddening.

Customers don’t like it ether. I have put my stuff back and walked out of stores because of the music.

It can get worse
I work nights and I sing along when the store is closed
Mostly, I have caught myself singing after the store opened in the morning

Yet. It’s not the Christmas season yet. “All I want for Christmas is you” starting on about October 1st.

There’s something about Christmas music written after 1900 or maybe a little earlier that makes me want to commit violent anti-social acts.

Most stores I shop don’t have music, except Trader Joe’s, and I like their music.
