Why is it only the mothers attend these parent-teacher showdowns? Aren’t the fathers concerned about their kids’ education? Does this strip take place in the 1950’s? Could be—I wouldn’t doubt that today, that beautiful wilderness area where Calvin and Hobbes hang out has been entirely built over.
Why ? Why ? Do really think your Mom would believe you, Calvin. Have you forgotten that this lady sees you at home and knows you probably aren’t that different at school ? If at all ! ! !
I remember many a parent/teacher conference when the teacher would tell us that they wished all of their students could be like our daughters. One time a teacher used one of our older daughter’s papers (with the name removed) to show other parents what the teacher was expecting of the students.
i always enjoy reading the comics in the morning to see all the screeching and screaming of the political experts voicing their opinions at full volume. if you are so miserable about how the country is running, then do some running of your own and run for office! just let the comics be comics and go somewhere else! thank you!
My Mom used to call the school to find out why I was not doing any homework at home. I was doing it on the bus on the way home. It wasn’t rocket science.
Todays strip makes me wonder how likely it is that most people still go to parent teacher conferences or if they even happen anymore, at least past elementary school?
A parent-teacher conference on the second week of school? (And we learn this was the kind where the class has all the students’ parents come and meet with the teacher.)

Calvin doesn’t seem to realize that if he’s doing so well, his mother would LOVE to hear that from his teacher herself!

I always hated parent/teacher conference days. It’s when I got to find out that I had so much “potential” if I would only apply myself.

❤️ it that Calvin is reading comic books. How many people learned to read, as in really learned to read reading comic books? Besides The Count.

Ha.. Calvin’s look in that last panel is precious.

You’d think after Calvin’s shenanigans last week, that the parents would’ve been called in sooner.
