You just knew this was coming: they had to find a way to justify Thomas’s and Alito’s obvious courruption; this is just the (second? wasn* there one a few years back regarding the governor of VA?) case in what will be the conservative supremes eventually striking down all anti-corruption efforts.
Some articles that Kagan and Sotomayer should retire now while Dems control the presidency and Senate to keep liberal judges on the court for several more decades.
I guess next the court will publish a price list of the cost of their services but for the ‘’ tip’’ it will have to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
I read something in the Guardian about the soc’s decision to legalize briberyThey call it “gratuities”. And it can be received after a favorable decision, as it won’t appear like a quid pro quo arrangement. But it is ok if they bribee knows about it in advance.
They just trashed the Chevron precedent 6-3. The majority opinion states that our executive agencies have too much leeway to interpret the laws that Congress passes. The only way to remediate this, if it is indeed a problem, is for Congress or the court system to decide the minutiae of every permit for every project in every corner of every department.
Now, think about the ramifications of this: Congress can’t get out of its own way, with members openly salivating at the thought of default and other means of destruction of the jobs they took an oath to uphold. They talk about Jewish space lasers, and we want to trust them with overseeing pipeline construction permits?
And if Congress can’t do this, can we trust the courts? We have judges and justices who think law and precedent are subservient to their personal beliefs. And even if we had a better-functioning system, most cases would take years to adjudicate even with today’s scheduling. Imagine how clogged (and expensive) the system would be if every regulation had to be argued all the way up the ladder to the Supreme Court.
The Supremes are working very hard to shoot America in the foot.
One more reason (if there weren’t enough already) to not vote for the Dotard.
