Today, the process is not so much repeating the same lie over and over, as to emit so many lies that people (eg fact checkers) cannot keep up. The desired result is to bring into question the very concept of objective truth.
A politician can lie and get away with it if they act polished and smooth. George Santos was just so over the top and unbelievable that he and Jon Lovitz’s pathological liar Tommy Flanagan seemed inseparable.
Nice metaphor for a wished-for reality: a certain Someone falsely claims to have won something, is satisfied with the fantasy, and retires from the field.
Remember what Billy Bush said about Trump lying about the ratings for The Apprentice?
“He’d been saying it’s No. 1 forever and finally, I’d had enough. I told him, ‘Wait a minute, you haven’t been No. 1 for like five years — not in any category, not in any demo.’ He goes, ‘Did you see last Thursday? Last Thursday, 18-49, the last five minutes.’ "
“Later, when the cameras were off, he said, ‘Billy, look, you just tell them and they believe it. That’s it: you just tell them and they believe. They just do.’”
I think the bigger picture is that this is the second straight original strip that has major characters talking about retirement. Say it ain’t so, GBT!
Just wondering if I’m the only one thinking that BD and Ray are referring to their service in Vietnam? Most war vets 20+ years on seem to glaze over the actual details and try to make what happened seem less horrific than it was.
Are they talking about Biden? Biden was 0-11 and then gave speeches insisting he was 11-0. “Best economy in modern history.” “We fixed the border crisis.” Well, it didn’t work. Goodbye Joe, me gotta go, me oh my oh. Your turn, Kamala. Give me some truth. All I want is the truth.
I have never, in my 50 years or so of understanding how the world worked, have I seen so many so quickly and readily grasp and accept misinformation on the current scale.
George Santos is a congenital liar, a criminal, and a drag queen. Trump is a congenital liar, a rapist, and a traitor. Both are very stupid, very weak, and very cowardly. Odd how the Godawful Obsolete Party tossed the less contemptible one overboard
It’s better than trying to convince people every game of the season was rigged against you because other teams won with players you publicly said you liked.

Will Rogers said that he “never met a man that he didn’t like.” That’s probably not true.
Donald Trump didn’t say that he “never met a lie that he didn’t like.” That’s probably not true, either.

Yes. Repeat a lie often enough until there is a debate which exposes the lie forcing you to go into panic mode.

Unfortunately somebody can just go look up the records and say that no, you were 0-11. The other teams won’t let you do that either.
And don’t be surprised if the college makes the decision for you.
