Saw that one in a movie theatre when it first came out and thought it was terrible. What surprised me was, for years afterwards it would be rated with 5 stars whenever it appeared in the tv guide.
It definitely was an interesting start to Disney moving out of the g-rated movie arena. Sure, if you watch the movie for the first time, today, it won’t seem great, but it was pretty good to me and I still enjoy it today on the rare times I watch it (perhaps once every 20 years…)
In the course of searching for images of Ernest Borgnine’s sweater, I discovered that there were toys made of him in the sweater, and that the full name of Roddy McDowall, who did voice-over work in the movie, was Roderick Andrew Anthony Jude “Roddy” McDowall
Scott clearly knows that he appeals to a geezerly audience, but The Black Hole seems a bit obscure to poke fun at even so. All I remember about it was that it wasn’t very memorable.
Perhaps Scott is hoping to land a part on a revival of MST3K?
I remember the Black Hole toys, I think from McDonalds. They were fun to play with. I had them reenact parts of the movie, but do things right instead.
That was shortly before I was first sectioned. Good times, good times….

Scott had to remind me about that movie. Now I’ll have nightmares.

Rerun time at “Basic Instructions”? Or did Scott carry out his threat of terminating it?

I really liked Black Hole, mostly for the ending. Even when I was young, I liked ambiguity over everything all tied up nicely.

We usually share movies because we want the other person to have the same experience we did. “Tedium” and “regret” are, technically, experiences.

I saw that this movie when it first came out and couldn’t agree with this strip more.

It could have been worse — I actually saw (shudder) Saturn Three!

I did ( and still do) think the USS Cygnus was a cool looking starship!

Can he really make fun of Ernest Borgnines sweater?

I loved Ernest Borgnine. IMO he may have been in a stinker of a film but he never played a bad role. RIP

Makes me almost want to watch it.
