Praviul Gabriel was convicted on 12 counts of operating a lithograph printer without a license, 10 counts of using polysyllabic words when monosyllabic words would have sufficed, & one count of being dumber than his associates, who were smart enough to get away. He was sentenced to 4 years at the state penitentiary, where he would only receive newspapers containing reprints of this storyline.
I wonder if the shadows in the first panel are Tracy and Sam. I don’t know who else would get away with keeping a hat on without being in contempt of court….
Am I missing something here ? You don’t invoke your right to silence after the trial in which you have bee found guilty, you do it before you speak to the police or I thought that was the game plan as advised by all the lawyers, fictional and real.
If the case was in Miami, Florida, he would get off light. If he was an illegal alien, he could kill someone and get only two weeks in jail. This crime would get Colonel Sanders an overnight stay.
Guy isn’t very bright if he says freedom of the press covers blackmail. Like libel it is very much not covered. And, unlike libel, there are no arguments about the definition.
And, talk about time skip… (Okay, you weren’t talking about time skip, but let’s mention it anyway.) It was going to be months – probably more than a year – between arrest and conviction.
Tomorrow we see Gabriel, hard at work in the prison print shop, putting out posters for the upcoming cell block theatrical society hit, “Dick Tracy, the Musical!”
1- JUDGEY WUDGEY: I’m surprised to see you wearing Peter Piercer Jr’s suit, counselor! COUNSELOR: It’s always part of my fee, Judgey – give me your best suit and $50.
2- TWELVE GABE SHOTGUN: If I may your honor – I now believe it may have been inadvisable to let the son of a man I blackmailed pay for my lawyer. I don’t believe he hired the best or brightest.
3- JUDGEY: Too bad. The jury decided – in record time I might add – that you’re guilty of … something. I’ll give you a break though. Seeing as how your girth would make it difficult to get comfy on a tiny prison cot, I sentence you TO DEATH!COUNSELOR: Thank you for your kind consideration, Judgey!
TWELVE GABE: I’LL APPEAL! JUDGEY: You’ll appeal an apple for all the good it will do you! CROWEDED COURTROOM: YAY! GOOD ONE JUDGE! CHEERS!

Considering how long jury trials take these days, this is about 18 months after the events.

Given the wokeness that has infected this venerabal icon, I see him getting off light. Great facials on these people, Carlos.

Seems parts of this storyline wrap-up takes place several week, or months later…are we getting a time jump – or will it be glossed over.

~ If they were truly his “peers” they would all be white collar crooks too. The guy would walk, easy with a crew like THAT.

Good morning™, everyone!
This is a rare thing for this strip to follow the criminal into the courtroom. Maybe we’ll be following him into jail, too.

This must be a flash forward – it usually takes about a year to prepare cases and go to trial.

The judge was found guilty by a jury of Gabriel’s peers? That’s what her grammar is telling us.
