Well, how Goldie gets out of the house is a loose end that has been hanging there for quite some time. Looks like it is finally solved. But I wonder, will the screen repair also impact Tommy and his ability to do outside reports?
I had about ten days’ worth of comics to catch up on, and now that I have I feel really bad about judging the Tidy Woman so harshly. After Blossom passed I felt pretty lonely until Zelda came into our lives, so it’s understandable even if she went about things the wrong way.
Lupin is excited to see the builders, and I am sure they are excited to see “her.” My worry is that Goldie will try to slip out and not be able to get back in. I hope not, I can’t take anymore lost cats.
In real life, I recall that Goldie and Puck were missing one evening and they found a loose screen. Clearly, Goldie had led Puck astray. When they were called, Goldie happily returned to the house but Puck was panicked at being outside and hid. They finally found him and he was relieved to be back in.
Leave it to the humans with their NANNY rules and regulations, requiring all the screens to be reinforced so that no cat can get out through a screen. The mere thought of making such rules and regulation to protect all felines from harm is heinous.
Cats, being libertarians, should have the freedom to roam as the please, get injured or die in what ever grizzly way they desire in some tragic accident through ignorance or cause injury or death to others, because By Catnip, It’s Their Right To Do So.
Rhode Island was part of the Underground Railroad. We know the Big Pink House is an older house. Perhaps there are hidden escape tunnels. The entrances to the tunnels my have been closed off but there could still be openings big enough for a cat to use.
Am I right that Sophie lives with Thomas and their Woman on the first floor of the Big Pink House? If so, fixing the windows will keep her (and anyone else) from falling out.
I once took care of a friend’s large cat of the Maine variety. He lived with us for six months and my cats were terrorized by Marty, so he was given his own room with litter box, toys, and I spent time in there playing with him. The house was on a hill and the window in his room was about 10 feet off the ground outside. Some boards and various debris left from building the house were stacked up under the window. One day I went into the room to feed Marty and he was gone. While searching the room, I noticed him outside in the back yard, sleeping under a tree. I called, he must have smelled the food, because he woke up, came running, climbed the debris pile, used his paw to flip open the screen, and jumped in. I secured the screen and noticed there were ample scratches in the siding under the window. He’d been doing this for a while.
Raccoon update! We had a huge male visit our yard last night while the ladies and their children were puttering around the kiddie pool. I feel so sorry for males, they seem lonely. This one had a face like a boxer with tiny eyes surrounded by muscle and a roll of muscle on his neck and face. I noticed him because he was singing! The momma raccoons would notice him, head over, and snerg and snap at him. He would output his ears back in a submissive position and make little trilling, singing noises while backing away. The message seemed to be “I’m harmless, I just want company.” A couple of the bolder younguns (who are about half grown now, weaned, and spend more time with each other than their moms) approached and booped noses with him, which was adorable. Finally the moms banded together and chased him under the gate. He was sooooo massive that he got stuck for a moment and had to wiggle to get free. Poor guy!
A total of five mommas, off and on, visit the yard, with three who are full time residents. Amelia and Wallis live in the storehouse ceiling, and Notchy lives under the neighbor’s deck. Last night everyone was there, and I couldn’t count them all. I’m praying to high heaven that we don’t get an outbreak of canine distemper, which comes through every two to five years when populations get too dense. Five raccoons isn’t too many, but when this year’s babies grow up it’s going to be more like nineteen! I know some of them have to die so the earth doesn’t wind up spinning off its axis under the weight of raccoons but I wish they could all live forever.

Reinforcement is also needed for orb members whose screens get blurry at times.

You would think after several months living outside Goldie would not want to set another paw out again.

Perhaps Goldie will have to be content with an “Only Murders in the Building” format.

Don’t worry, Goldie! Somehow, there’s ALWAYS a screen that shows, …

It takes BUILDERS to properly fasten a window screen ? Does the “man” of the house not have at least, basic hand tools ? I’m in the wrong business.

Even my WIFE could handle THAT “job”.

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Burt-Ra: Your Majesty, I think we need to do some repairs at the oPyramid.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I know there is still much to be explored there. What needs to be done?
Burt-Ra: The shelves in the Game Room are very old and some are loose. They could be a danger to some of our climbers.
Queen Cat: Yes, Bea and Ora Z are sometimes rather overly enthusiastic about climbing.
Burt-Ra: And Elvis-Anum is always concerned about the dangers of shelves. So I’d like to ask Wally and Iron Glove to make the repairs.
Queen Cat: And where is Iggy?
Burt-Ra: He and his cousin Ziggy are at the Owl Temple playing basketball.
Queen Cat: Excellent! I will have Puckmosis and Beatrixia plan a game nite for the near future.

If Goldie can get out at will, so to speak, maybe Gutter could get in for a quick visit and return Lil’ Starfish Squeaker to Sophie?

The people are simply trying to prevent another Sophie incident, Goldie. I’m sure you’re inventive enough to find a way around reinforced screens.

Just remember: there are very few things that a Human can fasten shut … that a motivated raccoon can’t open up again.

Never open a window without testing the screen. Better yet, don’t open a window wider than a cat’s head!
