I like hearing the praise, ‘big people’. It will get weird if Frazz’s speaker ends up becoming a aunt before thirteen(this girl might have a few sisters).
She may be right. I know I didn’t like them as a kid. Not even the little bite-size patio tomatoes. I still don’t care for them raw, but I can choke down a slice if I’m served it by somebody who invited me to dine with them.
Tomatoes are Not sticky.. but they are drippy if you eat them like an apple.. which I did when I was a kid and they were right out of a garden my mother planted.
I dunno: read this one plus yesterday’s strip, and you can easily get the impression of yet another one of those eight-year-olds who has judged the world, and found it lacking.
George Carlin would agree with the kid. Part of his joke/rant was something like “Have you ever looked inside a tomato? It looks like God isn’t finished with it yet.”
A buddy of mine, back 65 years ago, stole some cucumbers from a local garden. We climbed a very tall tree and, with my friend’s pocketknife, sliced it up and ate it. He had even brought a salt shaker. I have loved cucumbers ever since.
As an adult (going on half again as long as I was a kid now), I still don’t see the appeal in fresh tomatoes. Give me some nice, firm store-bought tomatoes, please.

So, add their weight in sugar, and kids would be fine with tomatoes. Sounds about right.

I did not like tomatoes when I was a child, but now I grow them. Or try to.

If they had better music then they’d play better music. Where to find a songwriter?

Spoken like someone who has never had tomato marmalade. Yum!

She goes on about tomatoes being soft, drippy and sticky, and then calls Frazz complainy? Pot, meet kettle.

I love good tomatoes, not the talteless thing full of water you buy at the supermarket but the sun ripe ones, full of taste.

“I don’t like tomatoes, they look like they’re not done yet.”… George Carlin. I agree with George.

I like tomato sauce, and ketchup, but not raw tomatoes. And yet, I can remember eating them as a child sprinkled with a little (OK, a lot) of sugar.

Funny, when I was a kid in elementary school, I would have a bologna sandwich and a whole tomato. Every day. I was the “weird kid” because of it.

I loved fresh tomatoes as a kid. Mom would pack smaller ones in my lunch with a little packet of salt, and I’d eat it like an apple.

Maybe someone should create tomato ice cream

Try a variety small enough to pop in your mouth.
