    Today is:

NATIONAL SOFT ICE CREAM DAY. Most “ice cream” you see in the stores these days isn’t even ice cream. It’s “frozen dairy dessert”.

INTERNATIONAL BOW DAY. This is bow day – pronounced like Bo, not bow as in bending at the waist to take a bow. International Bow Day recognizes the accessory that has been changing fashion for centuries – bows! Adding accessories makes just about any look so much better.

    NATIONAL POTATO DAY

    NATIONAL AVIATION DAY

NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZEN DAY. I plan on using my status as a senior citizen today when I go to play miniature golf. The place where I go offers a discount for senior citizens. I would have done that on my birthday yesterday, but I was afraid the mini golf place would be crowded with people, being a Sunday. I hope it will be quieter today.

Thank you everyone for all the happy birthday wishes yesterday! I had a wonderful day with wonderful weather. I didn’t do any housework until after midnight, which means I did it today, not yesterday on my birthday.

Yep, to the person who asked – my birthday is the reason why I took my vacation now. I always take off 2 weeks in the middle of August so I’m off on my birthday as well as days before and after my birthday. It’s also when I’m harvesting corn and stuff from my garden and when my peaches ripen (though most years, I only get a few peaches and if we have late frost in the spring I don’t get any peaches). Too bad though that while I got a boatload of peaches, my garden was a total failure. I think the weird weather has had a lot to do with that. My brother Daniel (one of the ones I gave peaches to) had a bad year in his garden too. So we’re both looking to have better luck in next year’s gardens.

To Catwoman , who asked how our store inventory went, well I surely hope yours goes better than ours did! We did really bad! Lots of stuff in the back room didn’t get counted and well, what can I say? The market manager was NOT pleased! Better luck next year?

Hi all, I’m back again after the catastrophic failure of my computer on Friday evening. It looks like the motherboard decided to throw a rod, and that’s the end of that PC. It was fairly old, something like nine years or so, and so the venerable i7 Haswell Hex-core is no more…..

I’d been planning on building a new PC this year, so was starting to plan its replacement, but hadn’t got around to choosing, or buying, any new components yet. What I had done though was to buy a mini PC (It’s approx. 100mm, or 4" square, and 40mm, or 1 and 9/16" high) in preparation as I was going to build the new PC into the old case. I had also copied some of my files onto a USB stick, so I had enough data to get the new PC up and running and connected to my various accounts when the time came.

Slight fly in the ointment was I didn’t have the correct cables to connect the mini PC to my existing monitors, as I was going to be replacing the monitors as well. Fortunately I was able to order all the cables etc. via my phone, and they were delivered on Saturday afternoon. So I’ve spent the last couple of days setting up the new PC, and apart from a lot of ‘Adult Language’, getting to grips with Windows 11 and its data mining tendencies and working out how to disable most of its ‘Features’, I’m back up and running with a brand new (Temporary) Windows 11 mini PC.

The new, main PC, will be running some flavour of Linux (Probably Zorin OS or Mint), so I decided I also needed a Windows PC for certain tasks, so bought a mini PC in preparation, and I’m glad I did! For those interested the mini PC is a Beelink 12th Generation Intel Alder Lake n95 Processor, with 16Gb of RAM, and a 500Gb M.2 HDD. I bought it off of Amazon a couple of months ago.

Doesn’t look like Chez got paid first. I had Hatchery duty yesterday, and 2 visitors came running up to the desk to tell me there was a snake in the back room. Yea!! It was baby gopher snake, likely just a few weeks old, skinny like pencil, so darn cute but very feisty as it kept “biting” me – tiniest little pricks ever. Let it go in a shady area with thick brush and water nearby in an area fenced off to visitors. 3rd gopher snake I’ve caught in there over the years, plus one other harmless snake. Made my day, of cours

Chesney, what trauma did you suffer in kittenhood to make you so nasty to everybody?

Rembrandt you ain’t, Chesney. At least the little stinker didn’t get paid anything for that. On another note, saw two dragonflies, a rabbit, and a wren while out walking today.
