Dick Tracy by Mike Curtis and Charles Ettinger for August 26, 2024

Good to see Junior. The shot of Rikki on his monitor reminds us that she is currently at large, just as the recent prison sequence reminded readers that Silver, Doubleup, B-B Eyes, Mumbles, Aquarius, and Jumbler are incarcerated with the newly arrived Gabriel. Diet Smith is friend and benefactor to Mysta Chimera, who today rocks a black jacket. It was sixty years ago that Gould introduced Moon Maid to Dick Tracy.

When Drs Ghote and Sail introduced Moon Maid’s DNA to Glenna, they created Mysta Chimera, unaware of exactly how the introduction of Lunarian DNA would manifest itself in their surgical victim of alterations both physical and mental. Mutating Mysta on orders from Mr. Bribery, the doctors are presumed to have died in a Space Coupe they could not control, in a crash on Jupiter.

Mysta Chimera has had many adventures since the introduction of Moon Maid’s DNA. She fought to save Honeymoon at Ace Tower in “The Fall of the Blackhearts,” took on the fear-mongering Representative Bellowthon, and met Moon Maid’s mother, Liska, at New Moon Valley, where Tracy put down an attempted coup by Governor Thorin’s brother, Ro-Zan. I have been a fan of Gould’s audacious side since my introduction to the strip way back when. Always a pleasure to see Mysta Chimera, Diet Smith, and Junior Tracy. Excellent work by Charles Ettinger. Welcome back, Mike Curtis.

MYSTA!… Sir Charles first take on her… she doesn’t have that ‘alien’ look, other than the horns… he needs to make her a bit more exotic alien looking… but not bad for a start…

Back to normal stuff like half-human, half-Lunarian creations. (Well, it’s normal for this strip, anyway.) Welcome back to Mike Curtis, getting back to some loose end, it seems.

Chucky’s take on Mad Mindy makes her look less like a creepazoid and actually pretty normal. Except for the antenna sticking out of her head!

They may be planning a “Diet Riot”.

Near the end of the last arc, I found myself wishing for another Moon Maid story. And now my wish has come true.

I wonder if Moon Maid’s antenna interferes with her smartphone reception?

Rikki, Junior and diet look great. Mysta is too Earth girl looking but cute. Will the introduction of these characters tie into the story we left for the Minit Misery detour or is this a new story?

An actual surprise Monday! I wonder if the prison story is on hold, or will somehow be merged in with this one? Too soon to tell. A really busy month with so many familiar old characters that have shown up!

Mysta was created with the face and figure of Moon Maid, Junior’s late wife. In fact, I think she was believed to be (even by herself) the original. Somehow hanging out with Junior and his present family feels like a setup for soap opera scandal — unless they’d already done that in a period (I missed some years before finding a reliable online source).

Things are back to normal, hopefully

Are we going to visit the real Moon Maid’s grave for a moment of grieving? Perhaps Rikki involved in another caper to complete Abner Cadaver’s (and Fata Morgana’s) open contract? Or is she leaving Abner’s Love Child as another orphan to be raised in the Gould Verse?

We don’t really know what the calendar says in Tracyland, but out here in the “real world” isnt it just about time for Honeymoon to go back to school? Making it bit late for an another adventure with her, Mysta, and, all.

Ummm….not to look a gift horse in the mouth but, wasnt the last story…that took a two week hiatus for that godawful minit mystery…. supposed to CONTINUE when the two weeks were over?
