Is Gus talking to me? The last couple months I’ve been wondering if I’m doing the right thing by retiring. I worry about money, will we have enough to live off?
A and J never asked Gus to buy anything. They can easily say No Thanks to his offer. They never expressed any interest in building a house or having 10 acres. Gus needs to listen to what they actually want.
Do we know how old Arlo and Janis are? I assume late 50s? I looked at a place when I was that age, 3 acres and a large shop for my car hobby. I decided a place that big was not something I wanted to take care of as I got older, so I bought a condo where I watched someone else mow and shovel snow.
Even if they get ten acres, that doesn’t mean you have to put it at the back of the property, so having to tut in a long driveway is moot. There are probably power lines already running down the main road so they would only need to pay from the road to where their power box is. Having a well drilled and having a septic put in, while it would cost a few bucks isn’t that big of a deal in the part of the country where they are looking. The water table isn’t that far down. Probably a 130’ well would hit good water. If I remember correctly, the kids have a cottage on their property they could stay at while construction is going on. Gus said they would be able to build and still have $ left over. I’m sure he was taking into account all of the related expenses, water, power, septic, satellite, etc.
Gus is a good egg. He’ll help you, if you want to be helped – but he’ll also protect himself in the deal. And he acknowledges that family trumps business decisions. That’s how I do business.

Despite the cane Gus usually lands on his feet. He’ll make out OK.

He only offered them part of the land, so it’s not like he’d be in a bind if they aren’t interested.

Gus makes a point – he decided for himself. Time for Arlo and Janis to do the same – time moves on, regardless.

Stop dithering and make the move already!

They’ve only been talking about moving for 15 months, what’s everybody’s big hurry?

Panel 2: Sounds like one decision has been made. Thanks but no thanks, Gus. Time for the next decision.

A decision never made is still a decision.

So was Gus going to sell it for what he paid for it? Or was he intending to flip it for a quick and easy profit?

Gus, that was kind of blunt, but necessary. I know Janis is assumed to be in the car, but she should have been in the picture, too.

Flip a coin. Then you’ll find out what you really want.

That’s a husband/wife decision. Good luck on it happening today unless you want a “no” answer .,..

Arlo, don’t be guilt tripped into buying land neither you nor Janis want.

I’ll take meandering, dull, dragged out story lines for $1000, Alex

this theme is getting tiresome. If Arlo had been in charge of the Pilgrims they’d still be in England

Go visit the family – to compare the commute to what you have now…

Time to mooooove!!!Nothing better than living near family. Friends, other relatives can visit, although it seems A&J don’t have any anyway.

Did Gus’ wife divorce him or commit suicide?

Let’s hope Gus didn’t say that last sentence in a threatening tone.

Heck I would love to have a place with a lot of land and a fishing hole nearby and a big ole pole barn to work on projects like old cars and trucks.

I’m enjoying the process. In no hurry for them to make a decision.
