There’s this one later strip that had a barber named Charlie (the final panel had Calvin coming back into the barber shop and saying “Alright Charlie, gimme that tip!”), and assuming that wasn’t just a sarcastic nickname Calvin was using, I remember wondering as a kid if that barber was Roz’s boyfriend.

Charlie is currently thankful he never became a babysitter like Rosalyn.

I know it’s a comic strip and it making the story and it was the 90’s, but don’t they have a hidden key that she would know about? In the 60’s parents lived and a dead end street with 17 houses, almost everybody new where the other houses spare key was hidden.

“After Charlie dumps you, he’ll thank me!”

Calvin doesn’t know when to quit.

I suppose there will be the usual increase in the phone bill if Calvin talks to Charlie for as long as Roslyn does.

Keep racking them up, Calvin.

Follow that up with Charlie saying, “Oh, I can’t miss this”; and then shows up later with a lawn chair and a bag of popcorn.

Me thinks the little terrorist is about to be really indisposed.

Is “Chas” a nickname for “Charlie”? I’ve never heard it before.

This happens to Roz every time she sits for Calvin. Does she need the money that bad?

Rosalyn will jack her prices for the next visit for sure.

Calvin isn’t very experienced in the girlfriend department either.

And none of the neighbors are noticing a teenage girl standing in the yard, yelling at the house? Or are they thinking, “That’s the Calvin house; just leave it be.”

Settling for too little? Well, Roz keeps babysitting Calvin — that proves she’s witless…

One problem with having this particular story run multiple times is that now I’m questioning exactly how many Rosalyn stories there really were. I feel like she might have been much less of a presence in the strip than I remember, but her few storylines were repeated to make her feel lime a bigger character than she actually was. I suppose I could find the answer on a Wiki somewhere, but I’m too lazy.

The spare key is under the welcome mat like where everyone keeps it.

Of course, by this time, Charlie is well aware of Calvin and the hell he puts Rosalyn through.

There were several arcs, including one I don’t recall well where she was his swim instructor. There are four babysitting arcs I can think of. As we’ve discussed, Watterson had some sabbaticals where they did reruns (unusual for comics in those days) and those embedded repeats are kept in these runs.
