Where’s the quote about you crying when you’re born while those around you are happy and laughing vs. you being happy when you’re dying while those around you are crying….
I’m doing that, though not voluntarily. My closest grandchild and my two great grandkids live about 250 miles away. My others are all 800-1000 miles away. Not on purpose, just the way employment and interest called them away. And since my wife died almost two years ago, the spending is way down, so I have more money than I’ve ever ha in my life. But still not that much. The total, including 401 K, but not including home equity is barely $100,000. But that’s a fortune to someone that lived with wife & kids paycheck to paycheck for 40 years.
knew a guy, years ago, who wasn’t a millionaire, but close. he’d “helped” family members, sent their kids to college, etc. the circling sharks were disappointed when he finally died: he gave his ownings and every last cent to charity.

Should have been a pirate, then you’d have plenty of booty. I think I’ll wear my overalls on my deathbed too.
On second thought, I think I’ll dress up like the Grim Reaper, then when he comes for me he’ll be confused that he’s coming for himself.
