Real Ai is incredible but it is amazing how many “AI” questions are answered just like a normal Google reply. In other words, everything and nothing is called AI now.
I have to admit, of all the advances science has come up with in my life, Artificial Intelligence is what makes me the most wary and uneasy of them all.
The scary thing is that people believe that the statistical parlor tricks being marketed these days as “artificial intelligence” actually display any intelligence. Unfortunately, it sells because people always seem to buy into things that allow them to be stupid and lazy, and LLMs meet that desire perfectly.
Read the recent story about the “AI medical transcription app” that has been caught inserting bizarre comments that neither the doctor nor the patient made. “Death by AI Hallucination” could become a real thing.
Artificial intelligence is basically a way for the average person to pretend they know more about things than they actually do. No, really. The second level comes when people realize they can prompt an AI chatbot to change its “mind” and agree with whatever complete gibberish you want. This is then published as considered research.

We fear invisible dangers and no danger is more unseen than one that looks safe.
(By the way, politicians often work through inciting fear.)
