Don’t expect much help from Gracie when it comes to squashing garden pests, either.

If we don’t want it we call it a weed. Rather self-centered of us.

No love for weeds, especially the ones that hide among my flowers and lettuce.

Over the last couple of years, I have come to understand why Thistle is a national emblem of Scotland. It is stubborn, prickly, and will not die.

Weeds are just plants you don’t like. Otherewse they are just like every other plant.

We had some weeds we called pigweeds. We’d let some grow in one row because they were good as a salad, or cooked like spinach, or just nibbled raw right there.

It depends on the weed and where it is, Gracie.

No. No they don’t. They’re called weeds because they’re unwanted in that location. If you want to love them, then transplant them somewhere else.

Quite often I like the “weed” better than the garden flower. Except for dandelions in the lawn – the flower is very pretty, the wide-spreading grass-killing leaves are not.
