I had such things not with my children, but with my husband, he spoiled every holydays! Horrible!

I like the way Mom and Dad never let it get to them. They just endure all the whining in silence.

Morning Cleo and DreamScourge! I can hear my mother now, “Come out of that water, your teeth are chattering and your lips are turning blue!” “But Mom, we’re not cold!”

AH CALVIN,, YOUR such a nice sport.. we’ll wait till tonight ,then we’ll come to the beach

Morning, all.

Days at the beach were the happiest days of my life. From packing the car to go there to falling asleep on the drive home, smelling of sunshine and lake air. Best.

Hah, he is by lake and complaining about cold water? He should try our seas.

Or ours, paha-siga (specifically, the California Current off the coast of San Francisco). Any colder than that and you might as well go kayaking.

You can endure for long time, but sometimes it is suddenly too much!

You can dress him up,but you can’t take him anywhere.

I could not get my kids out of the ocean. You jumped in or eased yourself into the water got numb and had a ball.

Calvin, you surely are good at one thing. Wonder you do know it or no? It is called whining.

Can’t leave yet, Calvin’s not through complaining.

I think Calvin just can’t have fun – unless he’s not supposed to be.

Looks like a large lake (I think I recall some previous comments that Calvin lives in the Midwest). ???

Must be Lake Superior, in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan. Even in August the temperature would make the “you-know-what” shrivel on a brass monkey!

For the next vacation, they should nail his feet to the floor and leave him at home.

MAYBE ALL THE WHINING COULD BE PUT TO BETTER USE. IT TAKES A LOT OF ENERGY TO WHINE. HOW ABOUT MOWING THE LAWN, SWEEPING THE PORCH, ETC., ETC. THAT WOULD LEAVE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE AND MAKE HIM A STRONGER PERSON.

When I was a kid, we’d go to the beach quite often, but that marine layer wouldn’t burn off until it was time to go home! Still got sunburned though. The water was warm ‘cause the air was cool. Loved it!

Calvin would look good as a buried child. Just one decision, which end up?

Personally, I would be complaining a lot as well. I hate going to the beach. >.<

@Bad Dog: I thought JAD’s problem was always stating the obvious: “Calvin complains about everything.”

I spent many days and nights at Huntington Beach, CA and always thought the currents were more like Baslim described. I appreciated his supplement to Nabuquduriuzhur’s post.

I loved that beach, by the way. But I imagine there were times when mom and dad thought I was like Calvin here. I probably would have complained about the air conditioning being too cold once we got back to the car. But I could control my own AC back then - there was a crank right on the door. We called it the 460 system: roll down the windows at 60mph.

ROBERTA K take your caps off your shouting. When I was a kid our dad through aircraft co sent a lot of people to Seatle, WA, that was fun, on weekend’s we go different places, we even went to beach, mom didn’t care for it. Got to ride in a fairy boat all but mom got out she didn’t like water at all. This was summer time then we went higher imagine wearing shorts where there was snow and icing watermelon fun times. Where we where from jobs where not there.

I gues JAD is trying different names to post. He just doesn’t change his style. Calvin this is so like you I would have enjoyed a different scenery. Walking about on ocean waves at least they didn’t have oil spill to contend with.

Some people are happy only when they are unhappy. When there is nothing to complain about they are unhappy because they can’t be unhappy. Which makes them happy, I guess.

This seems very realistic to me. Calvin is behaving like a typical kid.

Calvin should count himself as fortunate. I’d give anything to be at the beach right now!

Meanwhile, I haven’t seen Hobbes since the family vacation started. Did that poor little guy get left home and out of the “fun” yet again?!?!?

Why do people get so upset at people when they post in all caps? It is not necessarily shouting. I know some who post in all caps because of vision problems. As far as I’m concerned, people can post in whatever font and capitalization they want to. Heck, even underline it if you want to.

I guess you don’t have to be at the beach to complain!

We occasionally vacationed via a car trip to West Virginia and the mountains. Our son (now in his 30s) would sleep through the drive. When admonished that he was missing the lovely scenery, his response was, “What? It’s just trees.” Aargh! (He now realizes that he should have been paying attention to the scenery.)

I grew up on Boca Chica Beach at the Gulf of Mexico and the Rio Grande. I’ve spent time on beaches all over the US, Europe, Caribbean, S Amer, Africa and Mid-East. I still like to spend a week or two a year at South Padre Island. If it’s vacation time, it’s BEACH time.

dahawk, the reason for not typing all in caps is etiquette. There must be rules in all social interactions, and it’s no different here. Online, caps is considered to be shouting. Not only does it give the impression of anger but it is also more difficult for others to read. It’s fine to put the occasional word or phrase in all caps for emphasis, but really, even for people with vision problems (I am among those unfortunate legions), caps don’t really help you see better. Increasing the size of the font helps.

I stayed out in the water till forever. Or when my mom came in after me!

If someone needs to increase the size due to vision problems, hold down the control key and use either the scroll on the mouse or the up arrow key to increase the size of the page.

If I had behaved like that, a serious spanking would have been administered pronto. Like it, or shut up. I have learned to work in silence for hours as a result…..train a child in the way he should go…
