Get Fuzzy by Darby Conley for August 25, 2011
Transcript:
Bucky: What's all this, then? Satchel: I'm glad you asked. To counter your offensive dog-in-a-cage sculpture, I have designed a monument celebrating dogkind. It will be carved into a mountain, and it depicts the four greatest dogs in U.S. history: Snoopy, Lassie, Benji, and... Well, I haven't decided on the last one. Bucky: So, what's it called, then? Bedraggle rock? The 4 twits? Suck-up and the mountain vandals? Satchel: Mount Ruffmore!

How could y’all forget Asta? Not only a great companion to The Thin Man, but also regularly appearing in crossword puzzles for over 60 years. @QuiteDragon — wow, I’d totally forgotten good ol’ Yukon King! Then again, there’s Ol’ Yeller.
Tanner Selinger about 13 years ago
Man, all this and no one has suggested Lassie?!? I like Rin Tin Tin too, so maybe Satch needs more than 4. Now who could think of as many famous cats?

What about Wishbone! He influenced a whole generation to read and imagine!!!Either way, it needs to be a dog that wouldn’t appear like the rest when carved into a rock…

How about Mr. Peabody, a most intelligent canine, or Daisy, very loyal to Dagwood.
ellisaana Premium Member about 13 years ago
All those previously mentioned plus Orphan Annie’s Sandy? Sgt Preston’s dog Yukon King? Mark Trail’s Andy? Mighty Manfred? Clifford? Beethoven? Lady or Tramp? Goofy? Ruff? Huckleberry Hound? Augie Doggie and Doggy Daddy? Deputy Dawg? Petey? Eddie from Frazier? Old Yeller? Lyndon Johnson’s beagles? There are too many choices.Maybe Satchel wants the fourth dog to be himself.
jeffsxq about 13 years ago
I was also a fan of Rin Tin Tin, and Roy Rogers’ dog Bullet was great, too. And does anyone remember the ghost St. Bernard in the show “Topper”? (His name was Neil, I had to look it up.)

Greatest dogs in US history?Sorry, but Lassie, (yes, Lassie was a real dog), was from the town of Lyme Regis in England. Her claim to fame was that she saved the life of a sailor from HMS Formidable.

I just thought Darby was particular to cats, but now I see he has no respect for Dogs – hence the way Satchel is treated -and the fact he didn’t mention “The Greatest DOG that ever lived in the US history was Rin Tin Tin”( the dog who actually saved Hollywood) and he was real and his legacy -well a line from his family still goes on til this day. I had a friend with a siamese mutt cat who like to rub on you and entice you to pet it and then it would jump up and claw your arms. And the damn menace would follow you around too – purring and rubbing to see if you were fool enough to try and pet it again. It followed me into the bathroom one day and I saw the perfect opportunity to bury my foot up it’s ass – hard! I’d like to do the same to Bucky. Oh and there are no great Cats (unless you count Morris and most orange tabbies are very sweet and nicer than other cats). I wish Bucky could be drawn getting a swift kick up his…I’d actually hang that strip up.
GypsyWoman about 13 years ago
Or Otis from “Milo & Otis”…or is Otis the cat? Nah I think Milo’s the cat and Otis is the dog.
skilskin about 13 years ago
The “real” Lassie never made movies – they always useda male dog the first one was named “pal” the male colliescoat looks better than the females. And lassie whined to much. Rin Tin Tin was a REAL action hero and saved Hollywood. Died at 12yrs old while sitting on his mastersfront lawn with “Harlow”
