They can’t resist pulling it – only to discover it opens a trap door which drops them into a pit they can’t get out of till the locals all come and laugh at them for their gullibility.

Just for laughs, place the switch in the center, where it doesn’t touch either contact.

It would have been funnier if the sign referred instead to the way our magnetic poles flip every so often.

Bogus! As you know, the earth spins to the left, not the right.

The way it spins depends on which pole you are standing on.

    Where’s Nate the Snake!?

Everyone knows that Nate the Snake guards the lever that controls the world. The story goes that this guy found the location and set up a tourist stand that became one of the biggest sightseeing attractions in the world. People came from across the globe to see the Lever that Controls the World and Nate the Snake who Guards it. Until one day, a delivery truck lost its brakes and the driver was faced with a terrible choice: Hit the snake and kill the guard – or hit the lever and risk destroying the world…?

    Better Nate than Lever…

There is evidence that the earth’s magnetic poles have switched several times before. This would be a problem for compasses and other navigational devices, but most other things would continue to work just fine.

Re: “We will not be laughing when the earth reverses polarity.”I assume you’re referring to the period reversal in the Earth’s magnetic field. If the reversal happened in a matter of milliseconds, or seconds, or even tens of seconds, yes, there’d be problems, because a changing magnetic field would induce a large electrical voltage and current. (Junior-level electrical engineering or physics.) However, all evidence from the past times this has occurred (and magnetic flux frozen in things such as solidified lava shows the magnetic field has reversed several times) indicates the flip will take thousands of years, if not tens of thousands of years, to occur. At that rate, it will be no big deal.
