I don’t know about herb, but the banana tree is not a tree. The stalk is leafy all the way through, not woody.

An herbaceous plant which bears seedless fruit, hence cultivated to further produce (I have 15 sq m, 8 trees and someone who knows what the hell they’re doing to keep me in bananas here in the Philippines).

I’ve heard of banana liquor but not banana beer. Andy’s motto is : If I can’t drink it, then I can’t think it.

Chauckie hasn’t had enough to drink yet. How do I know? He can still read the paper and make sense of what he is reading.

I don’t know about other types of palms, but here in Florida, the cabbage palm is as common as a weed, but technically, it’s grass (really!))

    So now Andy is cool.

Bananas 1. a slang word derived from the old saying “bananas” used to describe someone that was crazy. Used now to describe anything in style or cool.

It was Andy that brought me to GoComics in the first place. My local paper (yes, I still read the paper although I know I’m a dying breed) made the imbecilic (and possibly Satanic, though that’s never been proven…) decision to toss Andy out of its pub years ago. Long before I’d heard of GoComics I used to go to the library once a week and get an out of town newspaper that carried Andy, then read all of that week’s strips at once. I actually did this for years!

I haven’t heard of this, but I did hear bananas were considered to be a vegetable for a while since it’s the only fruit that doesn’t produce juice or seeds.

A weed is a plant that isn’t wanted in a garden. When I lived in Australia we had bananas in the garden because we wanted them, not because they just happened to grow..One day my cousin and I sat on the back steps and gorged ourselves on them. I’ve never touched one since. That was over 50 years ago and I still can’t stand the smell of a banana.

Unfortunately the written word can’t describe the speech pattern. The Geordie sentence (above) usually ends on an “up note”. The last syllable (“cate”) is spoken as “kyeeate”.

This is from 1927, the year Lindbergh made the first Transatlantic flight and the year the first “Talkie” was made. (Talkie was what they called the movies with sound). Trivia Question: What was the name of first Talkie and who was the star?Link

I figured youda heard about her in some media or other. Even though she was “before your time” ( cue the barbershop pencil thin moustache music) she’s made music all the way up into the ‘ohs’._________________________________________________________________

You sound pretty shocked that I’ve never heard of her before. The only reason is because she was popular before I was around.

Hope you’re doing fine. I’ll miss you when you’re in Buffalo.

So will everyone else. I’m sure.

How time flies. In older strips, a drunken Andy sings songs from the WW 1 & 2 eras. More recent strips have him doing songs from the sixties. Sigh. My childhood has become oldies.
