An oldie but a goodie….Q: “How many months have 28 days?” A: “All of them!"
OK, smartypants…Q: How many pennies can you put into an empty pint jar?(Note: I think American, British and Canadian pennies are around the same size but we’ll use an American pint.)
Yes, they do. It comes between the 3rd of July and the 5th of July.If a plane crashes on the border of the US and Canada, in which country do they bury the survivors?
A coachload of lawyers crashes off a remote country road. The police finally arrive and the farmer tells him he buried all of the lawyers. “What? they were all dead?”, asks the policeman. “Well some said they weren’t,” answered the farmer, “But you can’t believe a lawyer”.
“Thirty days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have thirty-one, excepting leap year that’s the time, when Februarys days are twenty-nine.”That’s the way I learned it…
“Thirty days hath September,April, June, and November.Thirty-one the others date,But February, which has twenty-eight,Or in Leap Years one day more, Which we add one year in four.”
Make a fist and face it away from you. Start with a “tall” knuckle as January, low “valley” is Feb., next “tall” is March, etc. “Talls” are 31 days, “valleys” are 30, except Feb, which everyone remembers is 28 (or 29). Hope that makes some sense.
No. The question for the riddle is right. That’s what makes it a riddle in the first place. People hear the 28 days and think February, when the actual answer to the riddle as it is asked is all of them.
The one I’m confused about is the penny and the pint jar. Everyone is answering one, because then it’s not empty anymore. Isn’t that reasoning the very reason that the answer should be none? Once you put that one penny in there, it no longer matters if you add one more or no more or a fist full, it is still no longer empty..So my answer is none.
djc928: grass or sod? Cashew Jim had a better answer, but I like answering a question with a question – you tend to clarify things and avoid traps like most of these riddles are.
Thirty days hath September,April, June and November. All the rest have thirty-oneSave February aloneWhich hath BUT twenty-eight days clearAnd twenty-nine in each Leap Year.
The operative word in the poem, as I learned it, is “but.” February is the only month that has ONLY twenty-eight days.
I always thought we should have 13 months of 28 days, then one (or two) whoopin’ good holidays (maybe for the New Year!) The full moons would line up better, too (but I know, still not perfectly – something like 27-3/4 days, not quite phase-locked.)

Just one because after that it’s no longer empty so size does not matter.

Night-Gaunt… of course. That’s why it’s told as a silly riddle…. to see who catches that.
Just like “How many 2¢ stamps in a dozen.” Try that one…. you’d be amazed how many people say “Six.”
Those who mentioned it…. what’s the “knuckle thing?”
I’m older than 50 and I’ve never seen it either.

How far can a dog run into the woods?
Halfway. After that he’s running out of the woods.

Just start with the first knuckle of your hand, 31 days, space between 28 or 30, go to next knuckle, 31 days. When you get to the end start over.
Hey penny boys, you’re assuming I put pennies in a jar one at a time. Got me a power loaders, yeee haaaa!
